every time that commercial comes on, I complain about it for the next ten minutes. So here's what I hate about it: it basically makes no sense. The dialogue goes something like this: "Yaz" is the ONLY kind of birth control with the UNIQUE hormone, drosonopine" (or whatever it's called). Now that they're all on a first name basis with their fun new girlfriend, "Yaz", everyone in the ad nods and hmmms and acts like the main character has said something really profound, so profound that they are going to immediately call their doctors and DEMAND that birth control pill with the UNIQUE hormone.
We are supposed to infer that the sole fact that it uses a UNIQUE hormone is a great reason to get "Yaz". But ... we don't know anything about this UNIQUE hormone, what it does, what side effects it has, etc., since the ad assumes women are so frickin stupid that they don't need to be informed about such things.
The sole fact that it is UNIQUE is meaningless. I could just as well say, "crank is the ONLY drug with the UNIQUE ingredient, methamphetimine".
I suppose there may be a few circumstances where people are allergic or intolerant to regular birth control hormones and might want to take "Yaz". But other than these cases, since the Yaz ad has not demonstrated to us that the drug is unique in any kind of positive way, we can only infer that its side effect profile is probably WORSE than regular birth control (if it was BETTER in some way, wouldn't they have gone out of their way to tell us this?) However, we are supposed to be overwhelmed with desire for it because it is "unique", "fun", and "different".
