I hate feeling guilty

I'm also in Katy, Tx. Her kids should have slept really good last night with no a/c. My a/c has been running since March along with all fans but I'm always hot. If my a/c went out last night we would have opened the windows and slept okay.
I would never ever ask to sleep over with sick kids. She has another option, her mom. too bad if she doesn't want to ask her.
She better fix her a/c real soon!
This morning feels great! Wish it would stay this way!

Forgot to say, even though the a/c is on, it is set to 74 and hardly ever comes on so right now we are mainly using fans.

A couple of weeks ago I got a phone call from my mom. She said that my sister was headed to the doctor because she was up vomiting all night and was dehydrated. My nephew had the same virus he is 2 and would I come and stay with him while she goes to the doctor. My sister lives with my parents. I said so I am supposed to expose me to this virus and bring it home to my family too? My parents had to go to work. I said no sorry I won't.Yeah, lets keep spreading this thing!:headache:

I felt TERRIBLE all day because I didn't help. Just not terrible enough to willingly expose myself. My mom ended up getting it later that same day, my sister ended up in the hospital and my poor Dad had to handle them all! He never did get it.

Like you I would have been angry that my child got it, more like furious. She didn't have the decency to tell you before dropping the kids off! Just totally inconsiderate.

I hope your son gets better quick and that there are no others that get it!

She didn't ask to sleep over. She wanted me to take care of her sick kid. That was another thing that made me mad.

I don't word things very well, lol. I didn't mean her I meant her kids. :) I would never ever ask someone to keep my kids overnight knowing they were sick.
I have fibromyalgia and my brain doesn't work as well as it use to.
She should feel guilty for not taking care of her own kids!

My Dad is from Texas, I still have a lot of relatives there and have been there many times. Always in the summer. No A/C in most of the relative's homes that I've stayed in. They open the windows and use fans. At my Grandma's if it was really hot we slept on the screen porch. I have always felt that Texas heat is a much drier heat than what we have here in Michigan in the summer. The humidity is awful. We didn't put A/C in our house until just two summers ago. I still don't think there was any reason the OP's cousin should have had her kids stay with the OP. And especially being sick, pretty nervy of her.

Katy is on the Texas Gulf Coast just west of Houston. Our weather is tropical, very high humidity. Texas is a huge state with lots of different weather patterns, Dallas has dryer heat than Michigan in the summer perhaps, but Houston? NO WAY!

It did cool off last night, she should have had no problem sleeping with the window open.

OP, if she calls you back, give her the link to this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/General-Electric-5-000-BTU-Mechanical-Air-Conditioner/15860639 and tell her to call around to the Walmarts and see who has one left.

She can install it in a small bedroom, drag in some mattresses or sleeping bags and sack everyone out. That's how we did it when I was a kid and only had one window unit.
That's how we still do it! My house was built in 1917 and we have steam/radiator heat. We don't have ducts so no central air. I have one larger window unit downstairs which cools the living room and dining room and another smaller one in our bedroom. My DD sleeps on a mattress on the floor in the middle of the summer. We would put one in her room but it would cost hundreds of dollars to upgrade our electricity to have a separate circuit in her room for something like an A/C unit.

This is so OT MIGrandma, but I LOVE the pic in your signature. Did you just put it up? I've never noticed it before.

She used to have a snapshot of a bear in the woods...from her backyard or something like that.

agnes!
PS - Am I the only one who recognizes posters by the pics or artwork in their signatures?...and then when they change them it takes me a while to figure out who they are around here...

Wow. I guess nobody lived in TX in May before air conditioning was invented!

Seriously, open some windows.

What the heck do Texans do if there is a power outage in the summer? Is it WWIII with mass chaos in the streets? Does everyone pack up their cars and head to Michigan where we are a mere 5 degrees cooler?

Well, that's easy to say when you're not spending the summer in Texas. Before air conditioning was invented, people were acclimated to the heat, and houses were built to allow for cross-ventilation.

However, in this particular case, it seems like it was actually quite cool in the area, and there's no reason she couldn't have just opened her dang windows.

We get REALLY cranky!!!

It gets hotter than you think. When my husband would come home from mid-tour leave from Iraq in the summers (where the temps can be 115 and he is wearing full combat gear), he would find the heat at home very draining.

Yes, I put it up just a few days ago. CoP is one of my very, very favorite attractions at WDW. I don't know why, I've just always loved it so much.

The bear picture was taken by a critter-camera (no, I wasn't that close to him!) at our property up north. And I'm just like you with people's signature pics. :)

I would never send my sick children over to another house with other children unless there was a dire emergency. No AC is not an emergency. It's not fair to you or your kids.

LOL, thank you Agnes. I would never be able to tell you what her previous pic was!
