sigh...that about covers it. I know I need a menu and have times when I do really well, but right now we have no groceries and I have no time to go to the store. It's not a good combo.....

Oh----my thoughts exactly!!!! I really dislike dinner time lately. DH works until 8pm, DSs are teenagers which means sometimes they are home and sometimes they are not.

Ugh

I cooked up a storm yesterday afternoon, because my younger DS was in town for a job related test this AM. I made "cornflake" chicken, stuffed zuicchini, twice-baked potatoes, green salad and "no-pudge" brownies. Since he barbeques a lot, I wanted to make something from his childhood. Now tonight, I'll probably barbeque a tri-tip.

I do real good when I make a menu up ahead of time. But, when my DH has to travel and its just me and maybe some of the kids, it doesn't work out as well.

Tonight is pastrami. Quick and easy!

I'm with ya'll in this boat!! I've been dreading when it gets close to the dinner hour because I'm tired of the same ol' or trying to figure out something new and enticing for DH and DS. DS is a meat and tater kid, while DH will eat a bigger variety, but only if the foods are cooked a certain way. Personally, I'd just love to eat some pancakes for dinner once...lol It was Mom's way of lazy cooking under these circumstances. The other problem for me is that lately I've been getting home late which means we eat later and ya'll know it's harder to cook when time is limited...not sure how Rachel Ray always does those 30 minute meals.

Oh, well, tonight is "Kiddie Night"...fishsticks, mac and cheese or fries and apple sauce...simple.

I was actually going to suggest checking out some of her books. We've had MANY meals from three of her books, and haven't been dissapointed yet.

we pretty much toss around the same 10 meals LOL.

Sunday and Wednesday nights the girls are with their dad, so I dont cook. That leaves me with mon/tues/thurs of every week and every other fri/sat. We've been known to have breakfast for dinner- last night was bacon and cheese omelets.

Whats worse for me, is their dad grills a lot, so they have steak at his house most nights. I only eat steak grilled, and since I dont have a grill, thats out. I dont eat any kind of sea food, so thats out.

It's generally shake/bake chicken, chicken fajita's, homemade mac n cheese, lasagna, ham steak, pork chops, etc..

I am with you on that. If I could just figure out what "I don't care" or "I don't know" is I would be all set because it seems like that is what my family wants most often. Tonight it is left over lasagna, though.

tonight is turkey roast, green beans, corn , and bow tie pasta parmesean

Well, I came up with french toast and homemade applesauce. It was a hit so that is a good one ot keep in mind.

I HATE decided what to cook for dinner. So, about 6 months ago I decided to do something about it. We grocery shop on Friday nights. That morning (sometimes on Thursday) I will plan on dinners for the whole next week and make my grocery list as I am deciding. It saved us a buttload of money compared to going to the store with no list and no idea what I was going to cook.

I'm good if I plan for the week but usually I'm scrambling to figure something out. Then I get from my DD9 *I don't like that*
Great!

I'll go through periods when I like to cook, but those times are occuring a lot less often. What I hate is when I go to the grocery store and return and still don't know what we're having for dinner. For me it's all in the planning, which I am lacking right now.

I hate deciding what's for dinner too...

it is so much easier to say let's go out........ahhh but then deciding where to go plexes me even more!

I have the same dilemma...and I don't eat pork or beef...so most things don't sound good to me. I never think, yum, I think I'll fix pork chops tonight!

My biggest dilemma is that I can't please everyone in my house.
My StepS will eat most anything - but doesn't like sloppy joes.
My DS claims we eat too much chicken, but I can't find any good beef/pork dishes he will eat.
My DNiece that lives with me, is very picky - not a veggie eater, and seems most things make her sick (whatever)
My GreatNiece that also lives with me will ONLY eat Mac & Cheese, grilled cheese & eggs..that's pretty much it! ARRRRGGHHH!!! (19 months)
Husband will eat most anything, but doesn't like to try new things
FIL, that lives next door and eats meals at my house, only likes country cooking...like peas and cornbread...which the rest of my family won't eat.

I usually just have a slim fast - it's just easy and fast.

Now, I took the time to write the long post so that by the end of it you would be thinking, hey, maybe I don't have it so bad afterall ! LOL!

I really like to cook, all kinds of foods. When we had just one child, we gave in to her pickiness. When the second one started showing signs of 'selective' eating, we had a new rule. You eat what's for dinner. All three will now eat whatever I put on the table, and usually enjoy it. They've even eaten a brussel sprout or two ;)

I hate it too which is why our date night with dh is now a night once or twice a month at My Girlfriends Kitchen! It's awesome! We sit the kids down, they choose some of the meals they will eat from the 14 dishes listed, we go for 2 hours, make 12 meals and they freeze for up to 45 days. It really saves time when we are running late. We usually put 1 or 2 in the refrigerator when we get home so that it will be thawed and ready to go. It has really saved me time, stress and while it seems like a bunch of cash up front it works out for my family of 5 to be about 3.25 per person per meal. Can't even buy a happy meal for that cheap and it's home cooked, homemade (well at a different kitchen) with fresh ingredients and the menu changes every month.

I really don't mind the cooking. I am really tired of the same things week after week after week. School has started back and it just seems to make it so much harder to get home and get it done......I pick up DS at about 4:45 from afterschool care, pick up DD at my moms about 5:10, maybe 5:25-5:30 before I get to leave there. Our house is just up the street so that isn't bad drive but then Mondays we have to be at Cub Scouts at 6:30 (20 minutes away), Wednesdays church at 6:30 (20 minutes away) so it doesn't leave a big window there for getting dinner done. I really need to start planning ahead and have something in the crock pot. We have two very picky eaters, I know I need to put my foot down and say you eat what is fixed but then they'd eat nothing.....somethings they'd just rather go to bed hungry than eat.

Someone please tell me it gets easier as they get older. I am so sorry I was a picky eater for my mom.....guess I'm getting paid back.
