I hate computers

I have had a david and goliath struggle with my computer at work this week and the computer won.

The powers that be decided that I needed a hard drive upgrade and the man duly came and happily installed on Monday. Lovely, you might say to yourself, ah, but too soon.....

Come Tuesday morn, cant log onto the system (VPN). The lovely man had also left me instructions on how to do this with my lovely upgraded computer......SIX PAGES LONG....call me stupid, but me thinks that is slightly surplus to requirments!!! Spent three hours reading the log on instructions, shouting at computer, hitting computer, cursing computer man. My colleague comes in and she cant do it either. Phone man, problem with broadband, all is clear.

Come Wednesday morn, log in system and....all my work has disappeared....seven years worth of files...gone. At this point, I am tempted to throw the computer out of the window but stop myself on health and safety grounds.

My husband came in and retrieved the files but today.....printer not working...printing out one page per twenty minutes which ain't gonna do it in our office!!!

I'm very stressed and cheesed off. I'm sooooooo behind at work now and I needed a to vent a little. I do beg your pardon

If I can get by one day without a reboot it's a miracle. Two reboots are good.

SIX pages of instructions on how to VPN in? Now, that's overkill!

At least they told you, though. I tried VPN'ing into my work today & couldn't connect. So, I called Tech Support & they said "Oh, we changed the VPN client. Guess they didn't tell you?" Uh...no!

VPN connections are a pain. When I was at home recovering from my broken ankle, I relied on a VPN connection to work. One day they shut down the entire network because of the spread of the Sassar worm. I was stuck at home with no way to get email or to edit my files to correct a problem that they were having. I ended up dragging my sorry self into a car and driving myself to work, broken ankle and all.

I hate computers too. But not too much since I write and debug software for a living.
