What do you wear on the flight when you go from a very cold place to warm and sunny Florida?? I am going from michigan where it is 15 degrees. I really don't want to where a coat to florida;) What do the rest of you snowbirds do??

Michigander here, too. We(the girls) wear capri pants, a tee and a hodded sweatshirt, a light cardigan, or something similar. My husband wears shorts, a tee shirt with a sweatshirt over it.

If you are flying out of Detroit and using a parking service, set your bags out behind your car and wait in your car for the bus. They will stop if they see your bags. :)

Layers, many layers that you can peel off as you get warmer. I also pack shorts in my carry-on that I change into at MCO.

So I wear jeans and shirt with a sweater, a light coat that I wear at night if it gets a little chilly in WDW. I hate having my winter coat on a plane!

We are flying out of DTW! Great advice. As a matter of fact we have never had to park ourselves, we have always hired a limo. I just realized I have no idea about the parking at DTW.

When I fly south, from Boston, anytime between late Nov and early April, I wear jeans, heavy socks, Crocs, a turtleneck, sweater, and a flannel lined windbreaker over it all. When I get inside the airport, the windbreaker comes off. While on the plane, before landing, the socks come off. When I get to MCO, I head to the ladies room and take off the turtleneck/sweater and put on a tee shirt. The rest goes into the carryon bag.

Airplanes and airports are often extremely warm, so I rarely travel in anything more than a cotton shirt or sweater, and a light coat or jacket, even when leaving from a cold destination. I will wear or bring a pashmina in case I do get cold, which is rare

(and of course, German planes and airports are FAR warmer than in America due to lack of air conditioning, so even when I land at MUC I usually get a real gelato and stand outside to enjoy it and cool off!)

We layer as well Sweats over shorts.

Then we take an extra Backpack (small string type) to put it all in at arrival.

Same thing going home We normally put the sweats on right before we get on the plane.

We start out in NH so it is usually freezing here too. The boys usually wear those zip-off pants and my DD has some too that zip off into capris and then shorts. I usually wear jeans, tee-shirt, and sweatshirt with a light jacket. The kids do the same. We run into the airport so we don't freeze but I don't like taking winter coats so we never do. I usually leave them in the car so we can put them on when we come home. One of us usually braves the cold to go get the car so we don't all have to freeze to death. My kids are usually ripping off their zip-offs and sweatshirts as soon as we deplane! It is much more fun on the way there than it is on the way back but then you already knew that! Have a great trip.

Another Michigander here! I always dress in layers, because I am always cold when I fly. I wear a t-shirt or a tank with a zip sweater over it. And I wear capri pants on the bottom half. Usually I throw shorts in my carryon, then I change once we land in Orlando.

Have a great trip and bring some sunshine back with you. I am sick to death of this stinking snow!:daisy:

(From Boston)
Jeans and thick sweatshirt. Perhaps two T shirts underneath if it was really cold. These items are useful on cold evenings down there. Even going by subway and shuttle bus to the airport, I'm not outside that long.

Once I ended up wearing the jeans OVER SHORTS and sweatshirt over T shirts all day at WDW when the temps went no higher than the 40's.

No, I was not one of those pranksters going around with no pants in Boston and in New York City but I have been outdoors in mid winter in shorts and sweatshirt.

On my trip he end of Jan. it was 20 below wind chill at home and 80 in FL. We wore layers on top, jeans and tennis shoes. I made sure to have my sandals handy for when we got there. I can handle jeans in 80 degree weather but not hot feet. I did not plan on such hot weather in FL and did not bring any shorts for my son. Very hard to pack because it could be 50 or 80??

If you're driving yourself, and using long term parking, you're probably going to need your coat. Particularly if you need to dig out snow covered car on your return.

I'll agree with the previous posters, if you're using a car service, or being dropped off by a friend, you can probably skip the heavy coat.

I dress for where I'm going. More than once I've trudged through a snow covered airport parking lot in PA in shorts and sneakers, knowing I'll only be chilly for a short while and that it will be 80 when I de-plane in MCO. I'll wear jeans and carry a jacket for the return trip.

We're from Michigan as well. We wear jeans and short-sleeve/t-shirts with a sweatshirt. We carry an empty suitcase and pack the coats and sweatshirts in it when DH comes back from parking the car. On the way back we carryon the warm gear and pack the souveniers in the extra suitcase.

We just returned from Tampa. It was -2 the day we left Chicago. I wore a pair of knit slacks, a t-shirt, shoes, socks, and my Disney hooded sweat jacket. DH wore jeans, a Charlie Harper shirt, shoes, socks, and a lightweight jacket.

I have to say, when I saw your post I thought to myself "I bet their from michigan" I was right! Last year we left on a day much like today, wind chill was -25. I wore stretch black pants that are moisture whisking. They were warm in MI and comfortable in FL. I also wore a t-shirt and a zip up sweatshirt that made it's way into my bag in FL. My husband did carry on shorts and changed at MCO.

I am jealous that you are leaving the cold cold place!

I thought the same thing! We Michiganders are a distinctive breed. ;)

Wow am I glad I found this thread:rotfl2: Leaving from buffalo and wondered the samething. I have the kids in sweatpants and t-shirts with a sweatshirt over top, sneakers and socks. In carry-on we have shorts to match t-shirt that is on us and sandals. The problem with us is we have a stop over in JFK:scared1: . So hopefully New York won't be as cold as Ontario/Buffalo. We are taking the hotel shuttle to the airport so hopefully they will drop us off at the door. When we get close to MCO I will change into shorts on plane. SO if you see white legs in shorts with a family of 5, THAT is us and ready for the sunshine:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This is what we do too!

I always wear long pants to travel on a plane (it's just more comfortable) and a t-shirt and zip up sweater. Then I pack along a pair of shorts to change into once I land in the warm destination. Sometimes I change when we land, sometimes I end up not changing until I get to the hotel, it all depends.

What I do is wear my lightest coat(car coat lenght)..under that I wear a sweater and a short sleeve shirt and usually jeans or other cotton pants(depending on temp). If it is moderatly warm I will wear capris. As soon as I get inside the airport I put my coat in my checked luggage(I leave a little room and I also have an extertior area I can put it in my checked luggage. This way I have my sweater which I usually wear on the plane and then reverse it to use as a blanket(not touching the plane ones) since I am frequently cold inside a plane. My kids I do the same thing with except they have zip up sweatshirts(and they also wear the zip apart pants...which I also store in the checked luggage). I carry shorts in my carryon. Everyone wears slip on shoes/sandals and socks-so they can get through security easily once through security- I can remove the socks if wanted(I carry an empty ziploc for those-walking barefoot in an airport scieves me out ). DH usually wears some type of golf jacket and izod shirt...he packs a sweat shirt for return trip. We have arrived home to 3feet of snow so we also have coats/blankets/hats and gloves in the car at the airport. Also have a car shovel/deicer/snowbrush if there is any chance that you are not going to be parked in a protected area.
