I had a RTA today! (Updated and pics)

Oh Michelle, take it easy and take care of yourself, hope it feels better soon

 I had the exact same thing happen to me a year ago. It's horrible and I totally understand why you feel so rotten. My claim has just been finalised, it can be a long drawn out process. Thank god that the car took the brunt of it.
If your neck is still hurting after a month go back to you GP and see a physio/chiropractor. I didn't see one for many months after and I'm still having problems with my shoulder now.
I hope you start to feel better soon, take it easy

Sorry to be a doom merchant, but make sure you write down exactly what happend as soon as possible, take photos of the road layout if you can and investigate if there are CCTV cameras at that spot.
The driver who hit me apologised straight away and then told his insurance company a whole load of lies. By the time I got to hear of this more than 3 weeks had passed so there was no CCTV evidence. My insurance company were unwilling to fight and suggested I settle for his offer of 50/50 settlement. I was  . No way was I losing my no-claims for HIS mistake. It was only that I was so very persistant and sent in photos of the road layout and JUST KEPT NAGGING that they followed it up. He admitted fault and paid it all. It caused a lot of stress and I was tempted at times to give up. Hope this doesn't happen to you - just wanted to warn you. :)
Hope you feel better soon.

Hi

Thanks for all your kind words. I am still in pain, but at least the headache has gone. I am on regular pain killers and I will be seeing my GP this week. For a few reasons one because the pain has radiated down my left arm and right shoulder blade hurts a little.

We have been given a Vauxhall Merriva to hire until the car is sorted out. There are no way the car can be fixed. Its a write off. I have included some pics.

A little dilemma as well. I am on annual leave for 3 weeks now. I phoned my work and mentioned my accident. Apparently I cant be off sick and annual leave. I have to chose which way to go about this. The sensible option is annual leave, but it means if my neck is still playing up then I cant go off sick with the injury apparently it would mean an old injury? The problem is that if I do go off sick and I go to Florida wouldnt that be wrong. I.e wouldnt my work question why I was still going when I am meant to be sick :confused3 Also if my sick note runs out whilst I am out in Florida. It brings up so many problems I really dont know what to do about this one. HR are useless and say that its down to my Ward Manager, but my Ward Manager is on holiday and I am speaking to the Ward Sister. Any ideas or advice?

Here are some pics

If you go off sick, they have to reimburse you your leave. However there is the dilema of you going to Florida. It would be easier to have it as leave but notify them incase you have any problems down the line due to the accident. They have been notified. It would be best to speak to someone as you said therefore they would make the decision for you so you will have covered yourself.

Do your work know you are going to Florida?

Could you GP not write you a longer sick note to cover your holiday? I have worked with people who have been signed off sick but have still gone on holiday though the company just thought they were at home after being signed off work.

Glad to hear you're slowly on the mend. Sadly we were involved in a fatal RTA some years ago (like you, we were totally innocent), but it causes all sorts of problems.

Please, please, please make sure you contact your travel insurance company and let them know of your injury before you travel. Just in case (my DH thinks I should have been christened Justine Casey!).

Keep smiling, in a few months time you'll look back and it will all seem like a dream. Just take it easy for now:flower3:

I am sure if signed off sick you get your annual leave reimbursed, we do at work. Anyway as for Florida you may need to inform your travel insuranced company if you do go so they can then decide if you need to pay any excess for the 'new' medical condition.

Hope all works out for you.

Claire ;)

I also work in the NHS and in May my GP put me off sick with an irregular and fast heartbeat  and had to referred for Consultations and tests, I had regular phone calls from work!, not to see if I was any better BUT to find out when I would be back at work! and would I be taking my holiday as A/Leave or Sick, and that if I went to Florida whilst off sick then I would have to be referred to Occupational Health:rolleyes1 , so after discussion with my GP who told me I was unfit to go to work BUT my holiday would probably do me good :), that's what I did, and my holiday entitlement reimbursed. Good luck with your GP visit :tink: Oh and by the way Occ Health were very helpful!

Thanks for the advice. I really dont know what to do. I will get my holiday re-imbursed, but I was told thats if they can fit it in. Due to the financial deficit they might not be able to pay for holiday less. Hopefully if I am accepted into university then I can leave in November. To be honest going off sick instead would be beneficial, so I dont owe them any days.

Unfortunately people at work do know I am going to Florida. My Ward Manager is scary. She hates sickness. I dont know how she would feel about this. With her being on annual leave its so hard. I have to phone the Ward Sister tomorrow to let her know what I want to do, but the problem is that I wont be able to get a sick note from my GP. I agree the holiday would do me a lot of good. I dont want to lose the money or not go on holiday. Especially when I am fit for the holiday, but not work. Especially it being a manual handling job.

Oh decisions I dont like these. ;)

Why won't your GP give you a sick note? You have an injury and you are not fit for work:confused3

If it os going to be a problem with you may not get the days back, take it as leave then work can't say anything.

I meant I wont have a sick note tomorrow and I am not sure how long she will write it up for.

You can self certificate for 7 days so that shouldn't be a problem, you could just get you GP to date it from when you went sick, explain to the Ward sister that you are visiting your GP later and can get a certificate then.

Hi

Thanks for the advice. I will go off sick then, so I can claim my holiday back. I hope that my work does not get funny when I go to Florida though :guilty:

ooohh sounds very clever if you can do it, good luck hun, hope the pain isn't getting any worse today:grouphug:

I made a doctors appt today. I will be seeing her tomorrow. Its a shame that I could not see her today. They had an appt, but I am waiting for someone to come over and collect the car. I cant leave the house today.

Today my neck feels a little better. Each day its getting better. Which is good. The only problem because its not a constant ache now I forget about it and do something and then shout out OUCH. :lmao: I never seem to learn though :sad2: It hurts my lower back when I walk around and I get a neck strain when I walk around as well, but I am fine all the time I am sitting on my bum :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 How strange.

Fingers crossed it will be all fine soon.

Nothings ever simple Michelle, is it? Hope all goes well at the docs tomorrow:thumbsup2 Take it easy, it's such a shame that in this day and age that we are all still afraid of our bosses (it's like the old days with Matron:scared1: ) my old boss was great when i was off ill and had already booked leave to go on holiday, he just said not to worry and he would sort everything out for me:goodvibes Pity they're not all like that eh?

Good Luck :goodvibes
