Ok. Putting on my flame retardant suit.

What if they are putting MK's opening hours this summer at 10PM so next summer they can add DAH and double dip?

If you want low crowds, pay extra. So sad but I'd do it. Did EMM and had a great time. Would love to do DAH.

They used to do this at MK - it was called E-ride Nights and they only had certain attractions open. If I recall correctly, it was only about $12/ticket more for 3 hours after park close. This was before they offered EMH.

I'm sure it wouldn't be $12 but this is how they used to do it in the early 2000s.

Disney After Hours (DAH) was the after hours offering started last year and it was in the neighborhood of $149. It came back for a second round at $119 but still vastly more than the old $12 deal.

:confused3 Not going to flame you at all, but nor am I going to be concerned about it. Pretty easy to speculate all kinds of different things, but we really have no idea why they made a change to 10pm this summer. If they do DAH, then I'll cross that bridge when I get there. For now, I take the park hours as they are and make the most of them.

I didn't know they did it last year! Totally missed that. Interesting.

We did Disney After Dark in Jan and it was great. I would do it again if offered. We were able to get a discount because of our APs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we go every summer, last week of August (have done it for 6 years and will do it again this year) and the closing hours are always early. Biggest change this year, for us, is the addition of MNSSHP . . . in August. Thats's worse than DAH, IMHO!

Ah, the old E-ride nights. I think we paid $15 in 2002 (I didn't even know what "E-ride" referred to, but knew it was a great opportunity). $15! We were so laughably innocent...and ripe for Disney's plucking.

It was cheap and so worth the extra cost. It was only available to resort guests and the crowd levels were low. DH and I gladly paid it as we thought the park closing times of 6pm in June were crazy compared to DLR 12am.

At the time DAH came out there were concerns that they would cut EMH and then sell DAH. Essentially requiring that two tickets be purchased for one day at MK.

We have step one. They have established a precedent of closing at 10 PM in July.

I'd prefer that over no late hours at all.

They aren't. They would have already brought them back this year if they were going to. Makes no sense to put the hours at 10:00 this year and then bring it back next year. Not when it barely sold last year

Though I can't tell you how much I wish they would. I loved DAH and I'd buy it again gladly. There'd be smoke coming from my keyboard I'd be buying it so fast.

Somewhat related. I've always wished Disney would stagger the openings/closing of their parks. Rotate the parks so that at least once a week, the 3 non MK parks don't open until 11ish, and in return they stay open 2-3 hours later than they usually would. Or close it at normal time, but also have a night each week for each park that stays open super late. This would give people the flexibility to enjoy their vacation they way they want to. Want to stay out til midnight every night and sometimes 2-3 am? Have at it. Like to hit the parks super early and want the occasional 7AM EMH rope drop or daily 8 AM opening? No problem. They wouldn't have to increase the total number of hours the parks are open. They might could even decrease them.

The only problems I can think of are: 1) It would probably be more difficult to schedule CMs for work. 2) RD probably depends on people being lazy and sleeping in. If you open at 11, people are going to be lined up a mile back waiting to get in.

We've been going the last week of August, or first full week of September for a decade now and Disney has been steadily reducing hours for the last few years. It was not uncommon not that ling ago to have 1100 and midnight regular closings with 2am and 3am EMHs during those 2 weeks. They've been steadily reducing hours, took EMHs in the PM from 3 extra hours to 2, and there are now less of them. Last year to this year I haven't noticed a huge difference, although MK did have later than 9pm closings where this year the initial calendar had none, although they now do 1 day during that last week. Add to that the very early and so many MNSSHPs and it def. feels and is less hours for more money.

I think if they reduced the hours AND added DAH it would have really been a PR nightmare, to start charging for time they used include with a resort stay.

I would have bought DAH in a heartbeat but it was never available when I was there. DMT I was able to book EMM (wish they would change the name) for July and it was the best 2 hours in the park. Between 9-10 everyone was in line at 7 DMT so we could do the mountains with ease.

WDW did nothing to promote DAH which was responsible for its not selling well. I really think they are fishing around for something to "celebrate" and make it a party like MVMCP and MNSSHP which have become immensely popular.

Come to Disneyland in California! This summer, Disneyland is open until midnight every night and Disney California Adventure is open until 10:00pm. There's been no talk of cuts now or in the future.
At Disneyland Park, there are definitely enough guests after 10:00pm to support the late hours, yet FastPasses are plentiful even in the evenings.

My guess is that the earlier closings are related to the lower crowd levels this summer... We went back in December the Week Before Christmas and MK closing schedule went from 9:30pm 3months out to 10:00 1month out to 12:00 2 weeks out. I am sure they are adjusting closing hours at MK based on the numbers of guests, Does it save them money? Absolutely. But it doesn't make since to keep everything open until 1AM when the park is only 1/4 full.

When we went back this July, MK park was no where near as crowded and they closed at 10... I imagine it takes a little pressure off CM's as well... especially since Pandora in AK has been staying open as late as 1AM all summer... obviously Disney is letting people check out the new land that they spent $$$$ on.

Its just smart business and Disney reallocating resources.
