Up here north of the 49th is bacon grease country. Plain lard is for biscuits and pie crust. Everything else, including seasoning the cast iron, gets the good stuff.
Bacon grease is used to season on a regular usage basis but I use lard when having to restore a pan.

Yep. I found 3 pans a stacked in each other and they looked like you would think they looked.

The one in the picture is a 1950 lodge Sk D1 8 inch skillet.
