I got to do Soarin' Friday!

What exactly is it? Is it like a ride through sorta video of California or something?
It's as if you were hang-gliding through Calif. Mts., oceans etc. A kind of 'virtual' experience.

Hey! We were there on Friday too and also had the opportunity to do "Soarin". I had the biggest smile on my face after that experience! So did the DH. We were in the front row (if that makes a difference). Lots of oohing and ahhing going on during the ride. Loved the smell of the orange groves! The only thing I would have added is a little spray of water when dipping down towards the surfers. I half expected to get my feet wet!

We were told by the CM's that they are expecting 3 hour lines for this attraction when it opens on May 5.

It was awesome!

Sounds great. Is the ride smooth or is it something that could cause motion sickness?

Not only is it smooth, I could easily describe it as soothing! I'm not a big simulator rider (motion sickness) but had NO problem on Soarin! It was just a real thrill.

That is great to hear. I hope to ride this during our June trip. Sounds great.

Shelby, was your experience similar to the OP in that you were just walking by and got lucky?

Anyone curious about seeing what the queue areas look like, there are some pics at themeparks.com. It looks awesome. :earseek:

Sort of. We had just done "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" and needed to find a restroom. We knew it was somewhere behind the building according to our map. When we came out of the bathroom we noticed the line and overheard some folks in the line talking about it so we just asked the CM there wearing a "Soarin" uniform. She invited us to the line and told us it would be about a 20 minute wait. Thanks to this board, I had read about the attraction before we left for FL so I knew it was something we shouldn't pass up. It certainly looked to me like it was ready to go. Oh, and the real main entry will be through something else like maybe "The Land"? I can't remember what she said. Sorry.

shelbylook (or anyone else who has riden it),

this ride is restricted for pregnant women. i'll be 26 weeks pregnant during our may trip. i remembered it being smooth and soothing from DL in CA. Any thoughts on why it would be restricted?

thanks!

I am hoping for some sort of preview when I am there in a few weeks. If not, I guess we'll just have to go back next year :)

So the best way to get on is to hang around the land pavillion? thats where the ride is right? i'm really hoping to get on, but i definietly don't want to wait 3 hrs for it!!!

The ride is in the Land, however the best way to get on it is to hang around the Imagination pavilion over near the bathrooms.

My DH has a lot of back problems. He doesn't ride rides because of this. Does anyone know if there are restrictions for people with back problems?

Thanks!

I am not sure why there are restrictions for pregnant women (and dont know about back problems) because the ride is very smooth, not jerky like Star Tours is - its not meant to be scary, but rather breathtaking.

I assume it's restricted for pregnant women as a precaution - I know I wo uld be extra careful with a baby in my tummy! Probably overzealous lawyers trying to protect Disney "just in case" , but God forbid someone go on it and damage their child :(

Does it acctually feel like you are hang gliding in california? Is this ride a must see?

That is so cool that you got to preview it. Post pics soon!!

It's probably due to the seat belts. They aren't over your shoulder, so they have to be lap belts and that could be restricting to some very pregnant women.

Yeah, I have a friend who works Soarin', and he told me the exact same thing. It's DEFINATELY a ride to get a FastPass for EARLY.
