I am a huge advocate of always wearing seatbelts and no cell phone AT ALL (no talking, texting, bluetooth, etc..anything) while driving. I hear about people driving while on their cell phone and joking about how they dont notice things around them, etc and I swear I want to strangle them.
1 1/2 years ago when i was 19, I was T-Boned by some jerk on their cell phone while driving to school and it totaled my car and i dislocated my shoulder, had a collapsed lung, 4 broken ribs, a concusion, plus just a host of scrapes bruises, etc. I spent 10 days in the hospital (3 in ICU, 7 on med floor) and I spent a year in physical therapy for my shoulder and my knees (they got crushed by the dashboard).
I still have lingering effects from my disolcated shoulder becaus eof a pinched nerve and my knees are still not very strong.
The worst part is, a year and a half later, I still have problems driving because of anxiety. Ive been in therapy since about a month after the accident and while I can drive around our immediate area there are still days where I cannot drive the highway. I can still vividly remember seeing the car come at me knowing I was goign to get hit adn there was nothing I could do. I dont remember anything between getting hit and waking up in the ICU. But I was told many times that because of the type of impact (hit on the drivers side door...crushed in the door) if i had not been wearing my seatbelt it woul dhave killed me.
