OK, had my yearly squishing....I mean, er, mammogram. So this is a PSA shoutout....

Don't Forget your Yearly Squishage! :lmao:

Yes, it is uncomfortable and I would like to skip it, but then I look at my DD and think I want to be here and watch her grow up. You should have a baseline between 35 and 40 and then a mammo every 1-2 years after age 40. Once you hit 50, it yearly squishage, Ladies!

from your friendly mammographer:

dont come during your period. clouds the picture and makes the test more uncomfortable.
dont use deodorent or lotion in breast area.
show up on time.
dont freak out if you get called back for more views/ultrasound. often in these days of litigation, films are 'overread'. just a fact.

Thanks for the reminder...I need to schedule my squishing!!!

For the younger ladies in the crowd....if you have a immediate family member with a history of breast cancer you should get your first mammogram 10 years prior to when that relative had the cancer. Example: my mother had breast cancer at 35...so I had my first mammogram at 25. Be proactive with your health..not reactive!!

Ouch, thanks for reminding me :thumbsup2

Thanks for the reminder of when NOT to schedule your appointment. Need to reschedule mine.

I wish my insurance paid for a Valium before hand :rotfl2: (just kidding, I've never taken one of them - but anything to cut down on the nerves AND the pain...)

Well, I turned 40 this year so I get to start the yearly squishing.

Has it occurred to anyone that the most common test for male cancer doesn't involve squishing any tender parts on their bodies???? Why can they just turn their head and cough and we have to get things checked in a vice press?

I'm 35 and my GYN told me I should go for my first now at this age and if everything looks okay, I go back again after I turn 40. I went for mine yesterday. It hurt so much! I absolutely hated it but I guess its something we girls have to do.

And do it soon please! We just got word this past weekend, that my aunt has breast cancer which has already spread to her liver and spine. Needless to say, it's VERY serious. She even waited two months to tell us, so we couldn't tell my grandmother.

I feel it is odd that this was started today. I got squished today, too.

Doh! I saw "PSA" and was thinking prostate! Took me a minute there. How about adding a PSA for the PSA - don't forget the guys, too! (of course, they probably won't be looking at this thread, anyway?) :) LOL

Had my very first one this month!

My impression is - awkward but not painful.

Shoot - I nursed babies for more than 5 years - guess I've got tough ones. (not babies.....)

I second this. My roommate is currently going through chemo for breast cancer at age 27 :sad1: . Her mom passed away at 37 from the disease, so the 10-year rule holds true in this case.

Thx for the reminder!

As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, I am very faithful to this annual duty. :thumbsup2

yup - had my yearly one a couple of weeks ago!

I was an early mammographer - our compression was two heavy-duty balloons (one inside the other) - a far cry from the plastic squishies they use today.

Not yet. But I should schedule my first one since I turned 40 this past October.

:guilty: Sending many :grouphug: 's to your roommate!!!

I was very fortunate that the suspicious mass found on my mammogram was benign. It's never too early to be tested.
