I work at Dominos Pizza, and we close at midnight on Saturday's. At 11:53pm, I get a strange phone call.

customer: Hi, I am going to see my boyfriend tonight, and we met at a Dominos, and I was wondering, I want delivery, but could the driver hide in behind some bushes and jump out?

me: :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 Um, it can't happen tonight, as we close in about 5 minutes (I don't normally turn away an order, even at 11:55pm, but I was not feeling good about this).

customer:[perky] Well, could they do it tomorrow night?

me: :confused3 I am really not sure. It is not something we normally do, and I don't think any of my driver's would be comfortable doing something like that. Tomorrow night, we close at 11PM.

customer: OK, well thanks anyway.

WOW! :confused3

After I hung up, I really got concerned that maybe they were trying to set the driver up to rob him??? I can say, that is the 1st time I have ever taken a request like that.

Not only am I the mother of my own 3 children, but I am also a 'mother' to 6 of my driver's. It's a worrisome job. :teeth:

while it may be over kill, you might want to call the police and tell them about your call. Something just doesn't seem right.

This was my first thought.

Did the voice sound like Ashton Kucher? :goodvibes

Seriously though, I'd report it to the police, just in case something strange is afoot. :confused3

Doesn't sound very good to me either. At least call the police and report the call in case something else happens.

Stay alert and remind the rest of the staff as well.

well I would think if they planned on robbing him why wouldnt they just call and order a pizza and when the driver got there then rob him?.. Why would they call and say what they did which would arise suspicions.. Very weird though..

To set him up. Anyone can call and order a pizza to rob the driver. I had that happen to a driver a few months ago. Fortunately, they only robbed him of the pizza and ran off, but they called and had ti delivered to an address that was not where they were calling from. The driver got out of the car, and they met him in the driveway, he handed them the pizza, and they ran off into the woods.

This caller said she was "going to see her boyfriend", that told me instantly that she was going to want it delivered to an address different from where she was calling from. Having the driver wait behind the bushes to surprise someone, lets his guard down. As he waits, someone could come up behind him, and rob him.

The money is not what I am worried about. Our driver's don't leave the store with more than $20 on them, so a thief would not get much, it is their safety I am worried about.

What if it is not a set to rob, but maybe some crazy kids want to get a jolly out of beating up a pizza delivery guy?

I don't know, the phone call was strange, and it put my hackles up. I am going to talk to the owner about it, but calling the police is a little overkill, IMO. For all I know, she really could be an extremely sentimental person. If she calls again, I will tell her no, if she keeps calling, I may have to rethink police involvement, but right now, it is a little premature. :teeth:

You may want to do a good deed and call the other food dlivery places nearby and relate this story to their managers. Often young employees may answer the phone and that the order, and would possible be agreeable to that. Having a friendly rapport with the other managers could save the life of one of their employees and may save one of your employees some day.
