Earlier this year My Fiance and myself spent 10 days at WDW staying at Pop Century from May 6th - 15th. It was our first trip back there in a little over 18 months and she really wanted to experience the Flower and Garden festival at EPCOT since she never had before. I previously went to F&G with my Father 2 years ago. We are already planning to do Disneyland in October of 2017 as kind of a honeymoon celebration. We love to do anything Disney and like many of you to say we are just fans is an understatement. Our most recent trip was very good but we definitely had a better time in October 2014. This was mostly due to what we deemed as very high humidity which literally just sucked the life out of us sometimes. I felt like I was redefining sweating and mind you I work outside for a living to begin with. Also a couple of mishaps that made us waste time late at night was not so pleasurable neither.
Mishap one, was one of our two BOG ressies just got cancelled for no reason and with no notification. Anytime I changed a reservation for anything I always received an accompanying email stating the reservation was cancelled. Well on Tuesday of our vacation I noticed on our MDE while watching the Gin Blossoms at EPCOT that our BOG reservation for our last Saturday was gone. I sat there annoyed and pondered maybe its a glitch and I would see it reappear. Not a chance. So back at POP I go to front desk to find out what happened around 10pm. The cast member stated that I must have cancelled it. I said nope and showed her all my emails on my iphone that I have kept for that trip and not one showed a notification that I cancelled. If I cancelled this reservation would I not have gotten an email confirming I did so? Then she stated that because we already had a BOG lunch that past Sunday that the system might have seen our second reservation for the following Saturday as a mistake and just deleted it. We looked at her perplexed wondering why it would be anyone's business or problem that we decided to eat at BOG twice for lunch during our stay and who became the great decider in such matters that no one shall eat at the same establishment twice. A deep breathe and a hand on my fiances arm because I could see she was ready to blow, I just stated to the cast member, well can we get our reservation back. We were told no but given a 11am lunch to replace our 1pm cancelled reservation and we both received a SDMT FP(anytime FP) to go with our 3 FP selections we already had for that day. Needless to say the experience was annoying but corrected as best as one could expect. However it left us scratching our heads how the whole thing could happen anyway. You spend time planning 6 months out and out of no where. Whisk your plan is gone. Now comes the big one.
Mishap two, was coming back to our room at POP after a long day of HS/EPCOT/Teppan Edo/HS and Star Wars desert party(highly recommended) to only be locked out of our room. Yup. Locked out. Had to walk back to front desk and find out why we could not get into our room. Now I've had this happen before at hotels, but I wasn't expecting this here. Waiting in line again three days after mishap one at 11pm at night wanting to go to sleep, finally a cast member to help. Hello sir how can I help you. Well...we seem to be locked out of our room. Oh the cast member says, let me check that for you. Fine I say thinking easy right. We would be on our way in no time. She comes back and says we called to request a different room earlier in the day due to the gnats flying around the rooms near the lake. At this moment I received an email that I apparently requested a room change and it gave me my new room number. I could see my fiance was ready to literally POP at POP century. Honey I got this....take a deep breathe...go look at the pictures and stuff...I got this. I turn to the cast member and say I just got this email and I never called anyone to request a room change. So if this email is correct and I have a new room then may I ask where is our belongings. The look of oh crap on the face of the cast member would have been amusing if it wasn't happening to me. After herself, another cast member, going to the back multiple times and bringing out a manager the situation was corrected. Our belongings still there after they checked before we went back to the room. Just an apology for something you would think would have prompted them to call us earlier in the day to confirm we actually wanted a room change. Just crazy and being towards the end of our vacation kind of left a bad taste about POP century wasting over an hour to figure out the room situation that should never have happened.
Despite these two big mishaps we still had a great time. We had great meals at Chefs de France, O'hana, Hoop De Doo Revue, The Plaza and Yak and Yeti as always. We also had good meals at 1900 park fare, Beirgarten, Mexico, Sci-fi, and the crystal palace. The Best however for us was our last day there at EPCOT we had breakfast at Garden Grill and due to Soarin' being closed no one was really there for that breakfast which resulted in extra magic for us. We got to take a picture with Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale together with us. It was awesome. The food at Flower and Garden this year was fantastic and as always the Topararies were just fantastic. Mousekeeping at POP was fantastic and always left the room in great shape and the magical express great as always. The Star Wars Desert Party was great and is totally worth the price for the food and booze and the location was amazing and worth not to have to wait around for to see the fireworks.
Some other things annoyed us as well but such is life now at WDW I guess. The culture has changed but as always you can manage to have a great time despite what people do around you. However I have to say this. We were waiting to take a picture on the bronze(?) bench of Roy Disney and Minnie Mouse when we noticed the family in front of us had such a precious child climbing all over the statue. The child with parental prodding was told and did climb right on top of the head of Roy Disney for a photo opportunity. Where is a cast member when you need one. My fiance and myself lock eyes as both of us were annoyed at this behavior and I simply stated aloud, You know...none of us would be standing here right now if it wasn't for that man right there. I get the look and the kid comes down. It's good being 6'3" and 300+...it allows you certain liberties in life like talking aloud and not caring whose feelings you hurt. Also I think the dress code needs to be revisited a little and enforced a little better. If you can go through every bag and put people through metal sensors then why can't your security read t-shirts that may be and are offensive and if you see butts turn them around. Some butts I just don't need to see. I remember years ago if a shirt was on the edge you were told by cast members to turn it inside out or buy a shirt. What happened to that.
Well now we decided to go back for a weekend in October to have fun at MNSSHP and have a day at Food & Wine Festival over at EPCOT. We are going for just a weekend. We've got to be CRAZY right? Absolutely CRAZY. Except this time we booked two nights at Coronado Springs after our ordeal at POP Century. We talked about moving up the resort chain and even visited some this last trip and now we take that plunge with a short trip. We are looking forward to the October weather there as it is more comfortable for us that time of year. Of course we are looking forward to the halloween party as well. Question: Will the MDE let me schedule 3 FP's for 4pm-7pm at MK before the party starts with our party ticket or do I have to have a regular ticket to cover that? The only ticket we have is for our EPCOT day which I know we get our 3 FP's for and I am eagerly awaiting to see how frozen changes things up and to see the new SOARIN movie which was closed earlier this year when we were down there. Thanks for reading.
