I got a discount today

We're going to be at the Poly Oct 13-18. I've been watching for discounts all year, and I was starting to worry that nothing was going to come available. Even when they extended DDP, our dates were blocked out. I noticed yesterday that they were offering a $500 gift card, so I called to see if we could get it. The cast member said that there was a discount available on our room. It came up to be a $950 discount. I feel like I hit the lottery. It just seems more than the 40% off discount that they've offered off and on. But I'm certainly not going to complain!

I am new and had a quick question.

If I am planning on going November 2011, should I go ahead and book my package in January and then call closer to the trip time to see if they have discounts or wait for them to announce discounts before I book?
