We bought one yesterday and I'm so excited but a little scared of it too! I'm so used to my old 35mm one. But I'm excited to try different settings like blowing up pictures and black and white. It'll be nice just lugging a couple of memory cards through WDW instead of 15 rolls of film!! No more wasting film on more pictures because people walk in front of me!
It has functions I don't even understand! I read the booklet and I still don't know what it means. And the guy at the store assured us this is one of the easiest models to use.
It's a Canon Power Shot A80. Do any of you have this one too?

I love my A80!

I have had it since December and I am still playing with the different settings. Not that it is complicated but there is just so much functionality in this camera that it does take some time to explore.

I had it up and running with basic pictures, downloading to my PC and then uploading to a photo site all within 24 hours. So it was easy to learn.

I have taken to bringing my camera and user book with me everywhere so when I am caught waiting in the Dr office etc, I can pull out the manual and read a bit more.

Just focus on the basics and then go from there.

While it is nice that it runs on AA batteries- best bet is to get rechargables and a recharger. I sprung and got two sets of rechargables so I always have a set ready when the others wear out.

Happy playing and learning!!

Thanks for responding! So I take it that it goes through batteries faster than a 35mm?

Most definitely!! I think much of that has to do with the power needed for the display. If you turn the display off, you will get a bit more life out of the bateries. I find that I use the view finder to frame my shots more than the display- old habit left over from my 35 mm camera. I don't know if I will ever get use to using the display to frame a photo- although the pivoting display is way cool for getting photos that you might not be able to see otherwise- like goofy self portraits or over the crowd shots.

I've had my Minolta Dimage for almost a year now, and I still don't know how to use all the features. Maybe if I would actually take the time to practice I'd get better at it. I do love it though. Good luck and have fun.:D

We love using our digital camera! It's a Nikon Coolpix, so I cannot help you with your Canon camera, but I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. We use rechargeable batteries & have never had a problem. We carry the extra batteries & the extra memory cards in little metal cans - like the ones Altoids come in. Jump in & start taking picutres! It is so cool to see the results almost immediatley (after it writes to the card, of course). The one negative is we have to wait between shots. Have fun!!

I have the Cannon A70 and love it. This is the best little camera I've ever had. I use it almost daily. I've got a great system with downloading all my pics to a disc and I use Ofoto for my development and it's great. This camera has been to Disney about 5 times already and is going 2 more times this summer. Enjoy, you'll love it!!

We have a canon G2 and it is a nice camera we carry 2 spare batteries with us when we go anyplace with it. I did find though that we tae more pictures with our Nikon F80 35MM SLR than our digital. We still love the image quality of the 35 better than the digital.

We just got a Canon A70 a few weeks ago and took it on a family vacation to British Columbia last week. The rechargable batteries have lasted and lasted and I love the features it has. We'd had a Sony Mavica that we weren't too thrilled with, especially after it got dropped and would only hold a battery charge for no more than 6 pictures at a time! Time for a new camera and we love this one!

How memory cards do you take to Disney? We're looking to buy a digital before our trip and wondering? Thanks.

I went totally digital for our last Disney trip. The funny thing was, I used up all the memory. (Will have to buy another stick or bring the laptop next time.) Anyway, we went to Daytona after and like I said, I had used up the whole stick. So I take out my 35mm and try to hold it up to take a picture of Dale Earnhardt at the front, right? Well, I FORGOT you had to look through the hole since there is no display, so here I am holding up this camera trying to get a picture. Took me quite a bit to get used to. Then I didn't trust my instincts or my abilities to even take good pictures and took probably lots more than I needed just in case one didn't turn out. I love digital and won't go back now!!

Hint with memory cards...If you have Office Max, Office supply, comp USA any of those major chains check the SUnday paper for rebates on different cards. We have gotten several SD cards this way and paid almost nothing for them just had to send in the rebate form!
I really must say I enjoyed our digital on our trip. Only drag is the lag time between pictures. I also found I turn the red eye OFF this shortens the time between when I hit the shutter and when it actually fires. I then use the soft ware to fix it. Also if you camera has night vision play with it! I didn't realize mine had it! Can I say WOW to my pictures of the castle at night!?!? Had to take a lot need a very steady hand, tripod would have been wonderful! But I love my shots!

Enjoy! I love my digital. Last trip to DW we brought our laptop and downloaded the pictures each night. That way we didn't have to purchase more memory cards. If I had used more than 125 pics a day my DH would have shot me!

Just bought an A80 too! Have played with it for a couple of weeks, my only complaint is Red Eye, even with the reduction on. Any tips on avoiding this?
