I got a Christmas present I'm afraid to use.

I got the Mac OS X (tiger) and after reading the instructions, I'm afraid to try installing it. I'm afraid that all my old files and programs will either be inaccessable or unusable. I have a 5 year old Powerbook G3.

Don't be afraid- embrace it- use it, enjoy it! We have it on our G3 Blue and White- no problems- just be sure you have enough RAM or it will run slow.

If Macs' are as great as all the Mac lovers say they are then what do you have to woory about? I'm sure there is no chance of anything bad happening.

I have 256 of RAM, but I'm afraid that Microsoft Works, Pagemaker, and other programs I have had for over 5 years will not work with it.

Why is it some people can't stand to hear what great computers Macs are? Is it that hard to believe? And why would it bother you? Bitter?

I would think with ANY computer, you'd back up your files before doing a system upgrade- just common sense.

OP, you will most likely need more RAM- lots of new technology in the past 5 years that eats up your RAM.

:earseek:

I'm speechless.

I absolutely love my macs! When we upgraded, my husband just made a backup of my files (mainly because I didn't want to go through and try to figure out what I wanted to keep)
Didn't have any probs with tiger.

Thanks for the replies. I was going to backup my files yesterday and the desktop G4 that I use for backup was dead. Now, I have to get it repaired before I go any further.

Actually I use both, in addition to a Linux box. all 3 are good if you know what you are doing with them and all 3 suck in the hands of an idiot. I just get a kick out of Mac/Linux users always bashing Windows. XP is a fine operating system as is Tiger as is most Lunux distros. I've said it before Mac has the greatest marketing department ever created along with average to good hardware. Keep your eyes on the spinning wheel and repeat after me.... Macs are great...Macs are great.. Mac....

I've never actually bashed pc's. I have sung the praises of Macs, yes, andthe fact that viruses are almost non-existant on Macs, but have never bashed pc's. I've used both extensively and MUCH prefer the Mac.
