Giving up on a decent discount for 1st week of August. Booked the Dolphin for $159/nt. Good thing I bought this AP for the room discounts:sad2:

I gave up too! I just booked the Dolphin for the first 2 weeks of August. I swear there is a discount for every week except the 2 I will be there :confused3.

On a good note, I think I will love the Dolphin.

I'm half hoping for no good discounts in October so I can stay at the Dolphin. I'd rather stay there, but if there is FD at Moderates, I'd probably switch to POFQ to save ~$700.

I agree with you about lack of AP room discounts. We're going in late May and I booked the general public discount as I couldn't find much availability for Moderate resorts and what was available was more than the general public discount??:confused3

I did the same. We like to stay at the Beach Club, but can't justify the extra money with out FD. Has anyone stayed at the Beach Club and then the Dolphin. If so, were you happy staying at the Dolphin?

I gave up waiting for an early August discount too, so I booked a hotel in Williamsburg and the Outer Banks!!

Our fav is the Poly and in 2008 we had no discount and switched to the Swan-we LOVED the area and the Swan. We received a nice upgrade so that didn't hurt either.

Same here- we booked the Dolphin the first week in Nov because I do not see Disney offering any discounts that week.

We have not booked our 2nd week of August trip yet. We do this trip with my parents and stayed CL at the WL last summer. But I do not see that happening this year, so that trip might be the SoG for us.

We stayed at the Dolphin in Dec. and it was very nice. That's why I considered it for this trip.

As of right now, the discounts for AP holders goes through June 4th. I went ahead and booked and will call to see if there is something later on down the road.

We gave up waiting for a pin for Halloween weekend and booked the Dolphin! Last year we stayed at the Beach Club with a 40%off pin. This year we were hoping for 40% off again to try BLT. We haven't gotten a pin in months so we booked a 2 bedroom suite at the Dolphin for $480

Anyone who has been an AP holder for awhile knows that they are the last discounts that come out i.e. the April 25 - June 2 discount just came out a few weeks ago. So if you need to make ressies early then you will always be disappointed. Also; I have been an AP holder for over 5 years and NEVER has the general public rate been the same yet alone less then an AP rate! Almost all of our trips have been booked using the AP discount, I checked the history of when they seem to come out and then I will keep checking around that time and once it comes out I book. We were going to go the end of May and had our choice of all the Mods except for CSR, but DW talked me into visiting our family in Michigan this summer:sad2:

If you can swing it - you should also book a disney room at your hotel of choice just in case the AP discount comes out soon. At least you would have the room and you can just apply the discount. The Dolphin can always be canceled up to 5 days before your trip. You just need to be careful and keep track of the cancellation date of the disney hotel reservation so you can cancel it if the AP discount doesn't come out.

I was looking at Swan/Dophin but noticed they require payment in full when booking? thnx, tink

Not always...only for certain rate plans. The downside is that these rates are often the best ones you'll find, and you'll forfeit an amount equal to one nights stay if you cancel. So you really have to be sure of your plans before booking a rate like that.

I've booked the Dolphin recently with the teacher discount ($149 per night) and was only charged a 1 night stay. I have until 5 days before to cancel and receive a full refund of my deposit.

Oh, thanks for the info. And yes, the cancellation policy was enough to make me back off. Too bad, 'cause the rate was great!
