I get nervous ordering fish. Help me.

:o

I don't know why, nothing has ever happened (knocking wood), but I'm always nervous to order fish in a restaurant on vacation.

We are going to California Grill and this sounds divine:

Wild Alaskan Halibut
Saffron Bomba Rice, Chorizo, Salsa Veracruz, Romanesco, Fava Bean

Tell me to stop being ridiculous and order the fish! :fish:

Also - halibut is a mild fish, right? I don't like salmon.

  • FYI signature restaurants rotate their menu’s very frequently. I always scheduled my ADR’s based off of online menus and I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a signature menu that has the exact same menu at the restaurant as the one online. Even if it was JUST updated. Sometimes a few of the items are there but many, if not all, are different.

If the foods that accompany the Halibut are to your liking, but you would prefer not to eat fish, then ask to substitute the protein for something else (i.e., pork or chicken) that you may prefer.

About bones: The bigger the fish, the bigger the bones. The 'butcher' can feel the big bones to then remove them. You are less likely to get any bones from a big fish. Halibut are a big fish (not that big by some fish standards, but hundreds of pounds/kilos).

Work on the fear/anxiety first, and then try the fish... otherwise you'll make yourself sick worrying after you eat the perfectly safe fish. I'm not joking about it, it really is true. If you still feel that way and it's on vacation, just order something other than fish.

Getting sick and I don't know why! But now I'm also worried about bones... ;)

Halibut isn't very bony. Boney? Neither looks right. Anyway... it's not. Flounder seems to be the most problematic with bones, in my experience. I also don't like salmon, and I won't eat tilapia because to me it tastes like what it eats.
