One of the reasons I decided to get serious about my weight is because my 25 year class reunion is next year. I want to get in "knock 'em dead shape by next summer. When I went to TJMaxx today to took for DaVinci syrup I looked around at the clothes and I found a dress that I fell in love with. It is a beige floor length gown that is embellished with bugle beads. The top portion is like a halter top. It is heavy!! It comes in size 12,10 and 8. I love this dress and I am tempted to get it for next year.

Would you get this dress without knowing what size you would be in a year??

uh, let me think, YES!!:Pinkbounc I totally believe in buying something as a sort of inspiration!! You should have some idea as to what size you will be in when you are finished, try the dresses on, see which looks closest to where you want to be!! Also, if you loose too much, you can always have it taken in! What a concept..."Oh, I have to drop off this dress because it is TOO BIG!!" I would go for it....

I would definetly buy it and in a size 8!!!!

Good for you! My 20th reunion is in 4 weeks. I haven't even thought of a dress!!

While I think the size 8 is an awesome idea. Remember --it is easier to take a dress in than let it out. The reason I say this is not to burst your bubble. My really good friend’s sister found 'HER' wedding dress on a clearance rack. She HAD to have it. However, it was a size 10 and she was a size 22. In two years she lost over 100 pounds. A month before her wedding she was wearing 8/10 at 135 pounds!! However, she could not fit into the dress. It was the style of dress. She required a larger size. She took it to a wedding gown seamstress to see if they could adjust. They could not. To say the least the bride to be was devastated!!

I agree with Mum4jenn--try it on. Not all size 12s, 10s, 8s or even 18s are the same. I generally wore a size 1X (before I started Atkins) however, I could still fit into some XL and L. It all depended on the cut.

You can loose a lot in a year!! And if you have a goal like this, then nothing would stop you!!!

Good luck!!!

Hope I'm not seen as the party pooper, but I would not buy the dress. I think that when you lose your weight and get ready to shop for the reunion, you will have so much fun shopping and trying on a variety of dresses! I am certain that you will find other wonderful dresses when it's time. I personally think you'll have more fun that way!

I totally agree with lexiluke!!! Not to be negative.....but you will have sooo much fun shopping for it when you can see how hot you are going to look in it!!! Who knows...you may not like how it looks on you when you get down to that size!!

Good goal...I have my 25th next summer too!! If you bought the dess in the 8 you could use it for inspiration but shopping at the smaller size is a blast! I lost 40 lbs. 8 years ago and you'd thought I was on drugs when I went shopping the high was incredible!

Good luck which ever way you go!!

Melissa

I am soooo undecided on what to do. It is so pretty and exactly what I would be looking for and it is only $50!!

Many many years ago I lost weight down to around 140 and I could wear a size 9. I am not planning on getting that low this time. I am shooting for between 150 and 160 so I figure I might be in a size 10 or 12.Lord only knows because I have not seen THAT size in 20 years!! Guess I will just ponder this for a while!!

Hmmm... what would I do? BOTH!!!!

I would buy the dress in the size 12, hang it in a clear plastic bag in a prominent place in my closet so that it would be a constant reminder of my direction. When the dress fits, I would make DH take me out on the town to celebrate in my glamorous, wonderful dress.

Then I would go shopping for my class reunion dress, and try on dresses at fancy stores all over town until I found the one that made me feel like Cinderella going to the ball so I would knock their socks off at the reunion!

Life's too short to only own ONE fabulous dress!:teeth:

AND THAT MY FRIENDS IS WHY I LOVE KATHYTX!!!!

Way to go!!! That sounds like the best advice!!! LOL

Why, thank you, Tracy darlin!!!;)

And, on another note: I just did the math and realized that I need to make plans for that same class reunion next year. It can't possibly be that long ago, can it?

Maybe we need to go shopping together!!!!

Are we really getting old???It 's funny...I see classmates and they seem to have aged so much yet I feel the same. I know I have aged but for some reason I don't think I look as old as they do!LOL!!LOL!!! (of course it could be the fact that I never really got out in the sun very much like most of them and I have hardly any wrinkles!)I guess there are benefits for being white as a ghost for all these years!!

You know I think it's great that you found a dress that is your inspiration dress, but there is no telling what the future holds. You might not like it as much next year. You might find an even HOTTER, better dress next year that fits you soooooo great (since you'll be at your goal you'll know that the size you pick will fit you for the reunion) and you'll wish you hadn't spent that money on this dress. :)

I think you should go try the dress on now just to wear it and pretend it's yours, try to imagine how it will look on you at goal. But then I'd say hold off until next year when it's closer to the reunion. Your taste could really change by then and you don't want to be stuck with a dress that you don't like or that doesn't do it for you and then have to wear that to the reunion.

That's just my thinking - I have gotten some outfits that I loved at the time that just look blah to me now! :) I'm always ready for new clothes (bargains are the best!)

Actually after sleeping on this last night I think I will pass on the dress. Not because my taste will change (because this dress is already kind of "out there" for my style) but only because of the color. I am very pale and I am afraid the color will not be right. I am considered a "winter" so I think I will look for a bright color like emerald green or red to knock 'em dead with!!

I am a conservative dresser so that is why I was so attracted to that dress. It is not conservative!!!LOL!!! Now if it had been a bright color I would have bought it in a flash!! The perfect dress is out there I just have to find it!!

I will still use that dress as my inspiration dress. I will just have to visit it at the store!!
