I cannot take this beautiful white rabbit home. I have 2 BAD siamese kittens and 2 turtles. This rabbit has been wandering around outside all night and he is now sleeping under my desk. I work in HUD subsidized housing and someone in the neighborhood just got rid of the poor thing. The Humane Society won't take him. Anyone in my area interested?

Aw! Poor baby. Is there a rescue organization in your area that could help? You might try looking on petfinder and see if you can find him a home.

I don't live too far from you (about an hour away). I'll make some calls to see if I know anyone that's interested. I'll pm you when I get an answer.

There are a lot of rabbit rescue groups in NJ. Do a google search to find them, that's what I did when I was in your predicament. Just make sure you give the bunny to a NO KILL center. You can also ask your local vet's office if they can find placement for you.

That is so sad, I hope you find a good home for the bunny. Does it by anychance have a tattoo number in its left ear ? I know sometimes rabbits get stolen from rabbit shows and then later dumped, if it possibly has a tattoo then maybe we could track down its owners.

If none of the others have worked out yet try contacting decent pet stores. They may be able to do something.

Dont contact a pet store

1. Because it may end up out in the streets again so to speak.
Depending on the breed it may be a large breed rabbit and as soon as the owners found this out they dumped it so it could happen again

2. A lot of pet stores if they dont sell the rabbits they go to the snakes or get sold to reptile feeders, which I dont have a problem with but thats another topic :rotfl2:

3. What if its someones lost bunny that got out of its hutch or someone stole it then dumped it :confused3 I would be pretty upset if one of my rabbits were missing and the people who found it turned it into a pet store to be sold.

Just my .02 cents worth anyhow

I agree with the person that said do NOT bring it to the pet store. Often unsold rabbits end up as snake food. Yuck.

I recommend you try rabbit.org - they are the best in the business and they have a list of "bunny approved" rabbit organizations all over the country.

I know you said you had cats and couldn't keep the bunny, but it is possible to have a cat and bunnies. I have three bunnies and a cat. One bunny actually bosses the cat around...

Good luck finding him a good home!

If you need any suggestions until you find someone to take him, feel free to PM me!

ttfn,
TT

All of my cats love my bunnies to ( 5 cats, 40+ bunnies ) they actually like to play and tease each other in the barn, its very cute...maybe you could keep the bun and make it a house bun...you may be suprised at how your cats react( and the bunny for that matter)

I have a big mama bunny in my house right now with her 3 day old baby and my kitten just adores her.

I've tried to find area bunny rescues but none anywhere near us. No tattoo in the ear. The nearest pet store sells snakes so no way I'll take it there. It's with my neice right now but I don't think they'll keep it. My kittens are so much to handle and I just have no place to keep a rabbit. DH is waiting to hear from a coworker who has one rabbit but used to have two and she may be interested. It is so cute and sweet. It breaks my heart when people think an animal is disposable. They are lifetime commitments.

No where in my post did I say to contact a pet store in order to sell the rabbit; I said to contact them to see if they can help. Sometimes they have contacts that the general public may not have. If it is a nice enough place and the owners have a good heart they may even let you keep it there for a little while.

All I can say to those of you who got on the no pet store bandwagon might want to actually read all of what I posted first AND you may want to start finding new pet stores. I'm very thankful that the ones I deal with are nothing at all like that.

First of all who said I was even refering to your post ?? I was sitting here thinking of all the alternatives since I am very involved in the "rabbit world" and have many connections so I figured that pet stores might be an idea hence the reason why I posted to not contact a pet store( along with several other things). It had nothing to do with your post what so ever so. If I am talking to someone or refering to someones post, I quote it, thats what the quote feature is there for :thumbsup2

So next time you want to jump up on your soap box make sure you have a reason to. And I am also glad to hear you check out your local pet stores that you do infact know what they do with their rabbits( and other leftover pets), most people dont do that, so kudos to you :)

If you have an animal shelter or humane society that uses petfinder you might want to see if they can place a found animal on their site incase someone is missing this bun. Its not uncommon for one to get out of its hutch/cage one way or another and I would hate for someone to be missing their pet..... but then again it could be someone just got tired of it. :worried:

I am going to tell probably the most horrendous bunny story ever so beware.

DW Lauri was married once before. She married her high school "sweetheart" who I have met and is a pretty decent guy. You would have no idea he would be in any way shape or form related to the people who are his parents.

We are talking rednecks in every sense of the word. Trash, straight up period. Anyway, her ex had a little brother and sister and they had these white rabbits in hutches in the back yard. Well, I guess the younger kids got tired of having the rabbits as pets and the parents decided to take matters into their own hands and "rid" themselves of them.

Guess what they did.

Go ahead, guess.

They killed them....

then...

ATE them for dinner.

 :crazy2: :scared: :crazy2:

Lauri refused to ever have anything to do with these disgusting people and needless to say.. the marriage went south and now she's stuck with me. :teeth:

Well I will be the first one to admit I am a disgusting person :rotfl2:( althought I wouldnt go about it in that harsh of a manner..lol there are certain rabbits that are "meat" rabbits then there are the cute and cuddlies like in my siggy :teeth: I will never understand why people think its okay to eat veal, duck, chicken, cow, pig, etc but cringe when people talk about eating rabbit :confused3 :rotfl:

Gosh this thread is not going where I had imagined....poor bunny :guilty: :( :worried:

ETA that I am getting off now to watch survivor so if anyone has any flaming for me and would like to send some nasty pm's to me feel free, I will delete them when I log back on :cool2: :lmao:

You may want to PM alwaysquiet about this. I know she took in (then kept) a rabbit, she may be of help to you.

Oh I know that people eat game rabbits for food and I don't have a problem with that. I just think it is seriously disturbing to cook up your kids pets and serve them for the evening meal.

"Another serving of Snowball, honey?"

As far as eating "pets", I have memories of that, but I'm sure that we didn't. I was young, though, and probably thought that they were pets when in reality they weren't. At least that's my story and I'm sticking with it. You think that has anything to do with me now being a vegetarian? :rotfl2:
