I found a quarter!

Okay, I think I am completely too focused (my dh says obsessed) with our upcoming cruise. Even though we don't sail until 12-17-05, I am saving like crazy, including all the change I can beg, borrow or steal. So, I find a quarter in the floor and my four year old dd wants it, and I'm all "No, that's Mommy's quarter! You can't have it!". (That's twenty-five cents toward a massage, see?) Anyway, maybe I should calm down a little and not withhold small change from my baby. :p

goofyshell,
you're so funny! I know exactly how you felt when you found that quarter!!

It's been sunny and 91deg here, but I tell my DH we can't afford to run the air conditioning! Next I'll tell him no more brunches after church! Hee hee....every bit helps!

I'm soooo there!!

everytime I get change it goes to my 'disney bank' my DD wanted to use my change yesterday in my wallet to pay for something and i'm like 'no that's for the disney bank' -- ANY change I find around the house; laundry, couches, counters, DH side of dresser ;) -- ALL goes in the disney bank! no questions no negotiations!::yes::

I'm with ya Disney Buddy! We have a large jar on the kitchen bar that I attempted to fill before we sail. We are scheduled for next week and we are only half full. We are scrounging everywhere to put all our pennies together. Instead of it being massage money we call it our BINGO money.

We have a Disney jar that I put all of our change at the end of the day. I always put my change in there as soon as I get home. However I have to sneek in and steal my DH's wallet while he is sleeping. By his reaction you would think I was stealing credit cards. But like our rules state once it's in the jar it can't come out untill 3 days before we leave!

PS my friends and family think I am crazy because I will pick up any change I find on the ground!:earsgirl: :earsboy:

I pick up pennies off the street. AND if I find any loose change in the house it goes in the cruise fund - that goes for DS AND DH.

On our last trip to WDW, we brought a popcorn bucket home. We've started throwing all spare change in it and the kids just KNOW that if we're out and find some money, it goes right into the "Disney Bucket." It's nice to see them save for a goal.

I also dump my change into it each night. According to Suze Orman, if you only use bills, no change, and put all the change away at the end of each day, you can save $30-$40 a month X 2 adults = enough for a Surial Bath at the end of the month!

You're right...every little bit counts.

:hyper: Think of it this way... you are just being a good mommy so she doesn't accidentally swallow it!

FOURFOXESINPA: I LOVE the Disney popcorn bucket idea! Will definitely find somthing similar to bring home from our cruise so we can begin saving for the next one right away!

It is so nice to see that I am not the only one that does this!!! DH thinks that I am obsessed but I have him trained to the point that the first thing he does when he comes home from work is empties the change out of his pockets and hands it to me!!! It is amazing how quickly it adds up!!

Happy saving everyone!!!

My kids have been bugging me for a long time to go on another cruise. Now that they're 6 and old enough to understand that "Mom and Dad aren't made of $$$", they can start helping save for our next cruise. We also made up a Disney Vacation Jar and the kids got a kick out of decorating it. DS even told me not to spend too much on a birthday present for a party he was going to because "he wants to go on a cruise really bad!"

DS has a knack for finding change anywhere he goes and when we go shopping with my parents he spends the whole time with Grandpa looking for change-they make a game out of it.

When DH gets home from work each night, I take his change from the dresser and put it into our jar. It makes him mad because he says I'm always taking his pop machine money, but he'll thank me when he's sucking down the drink of the day in Animator's Palate!:D

My kids are trained, any money that is found automatically goes into the vacation jar, and we all know that it means something Disney.....

I don't have any children of my own, but I feel guilty when I have my little nieces over, and I do the same thing...

Let's face it...we to do what we have to do to get on that ship!!!

...I bring teabags to work and make iced tea instead of buying soda from the vending machines...NOW THAT'S CHEAP!!!! LOL

BTW, goofyshell...thanks for posting this cheerful thread...It's nice to see in the midst of all of the heavy-hearted threads going around...

We have a Disney coin jar too, but recently I spilled out half of the coins... some of you might be horrified at the very thought, but I had an extremely good excuse: I sent it as a donation to little Sophie Ritter's family.

I laughed when I read this tread. I am the same way. I refuse to spend change. I will break a dollar so I can save .04!

I have been saving for 2 years. I was going to use my change for our up coming Oct cruise but I booked the 14 day cruise next year and I need all the help I can get paying that one off!

Bobsuzla-what a wonderful, thoughtful thing to do!
I have been praying for her daily.

I too save every penny I come across. I work as the account receivables person at my job and deal with money all day. I find myself swapping out regular dollars for 2 dollar bills and for the 1 dollar coins. I have managed to save a bunch!!!! The silly things we do....lol.

LOL!!:p

I'll tell ya what Goofyshell....you just put a new spin on things at my house! :scratchin I have a DD4 who has been giving me a slightly hard time lately with what seems like everything  Her newest thing the past day or so when I ask her to do something like turn off the TV or go brush her teeth is..."Mommy, if you don't make me then I will give you a dollar!" Now I have been calmly explaining to her that she doesn't pay me to get her way that I am her mommy and she needs to listen to me because I know what is best for her...you know the speach::yes:: Now, after reading your post - I'm thinking of all the extra cruise cash I could be stashing away :hyper:

And on another note - my mother saved STRICTLY quaters for 3 years and paid for a great portion of our land/sea package. She was insane - would figure out what to give a cashier every single time so that she would get quarters back as change! Cracked me up!:rotfl:

Ha! Have to show this thread to DD, she thinks I am insane because all my spare change, each and every day, along with any found change goes into a crystal vase...this is my Disney Cruise Spa fund...last cruise it paid for 2 massages (one on the ship and one on CC) suriel bath and a facial!
