I found a .99 meal at Disney!

Around here, those cups of ramen noodles are about 99c each although they are sometimes on sale. The packets are about 25-30c each. We occasionally eat ramen noodles.. my kids LOVE them! Makes a quick, easy, and inexpensive lunch! I've had that ramen noodles salad that a previous poster mentioned and it is delicious!! :)

Anyhoo.. I hadn't considered ramen as a park meal. Whenever we go on vacation, we will pack sandwiches, cereal and granola bars, crackers, apples, cheesesticks, and will take our camelbacks filled with ice water into the parks. Ramen might make an inexpensive lunch option for the kiddos one day!

We are still in the process of saving for a vacation, but I'm always planning ways to save money! We are a family that is truly on a strict budget and we will not be able to splurge as much as we'd like. But by eating cheap for most meals and snacks, we will be able to do a big splurge, like a character meal or something, without blowing our food budget! :)

I'm an adult and still enjoy eating Ramen noodles from time to time. Especially during the months when I find myself a little more poor than I'm used to.

All foods have something bad for you in them. If you eat too much of something, it will make you sick.

Just because Ramen noodles aren't good for you, doesn't mean the OP didn't provide a meal that costs only one dollar. The OP most definitely did provide a cheap alternative meal for those of us who can't afford to eat at the restaurants in Disney every single day. Or even eat organic every day (because yes, that isn't cheap).

Whether the meal is good for you is neither here nor there. And truthfully, I wouldn't expect a meal that costs only one dollar to be healthy for you. Not even the two dollar breakfasts at IKEA can be good for you. Not at that price.

This thread wasn't supposed to be about how horrible it is that people eat bad foods. It was put in the Budget section, not the Eating Healthy section. :)

To be honest... if I was feeling slightly more poor on my EPCOT day, ramen noodles sounds like a lovely cheap meal to keep me going throughout the day. I'd rather spend my money on something overpriced that isn't food. At least I can bring a pearl home. :)

Im gonna be the first to thank the OP for posting it. I dont really like Ramen myself, but my DH does. And while I think its practically common knowledge that its very bad for you, plenty of people still buy it; just like people buy/eat fried foods. It really is a good tip for the budget board.

I'm not a fan of Ramen but my SIL made a really delicious salad for our Father's Day BBQ and the main ingredient was Ramen Noodles! Okay, it also had broccoli, cole slaw mix, almonds, sunflower seeds and a very tasty dressing but it does use Ramen Noodles! I just don't think you'd be able to whip it up at Epcot. :rotfl:

Mad Hatter Salad

I do an Asian coleslaw that uses ramen (noodles are toasted and seasoning packet is used to make vinaigrette). Its really good. I have never actually seen that cookbook, I was just posting as a joke :)

My dd would eat Ramen everyday if I let her. I limit her now because I know when she goes away to college that will be a staple in her diet :thumbsup2

Well, the Land has a hot water dispenser, but it isn't fully boiling.

I sometimes get it for my tea.....I can't stand the cardboard stuff Disney passes off as tea! :rolleyes1

If I am buying something else, they don't mind if I have one for free. I haven't tried to get one without a purchase.

So where in Epcot can you get boiling water? I happily buy a cup for tea!

Yuck! I can't imagine eating a pot of ramen noodles and calling that my lunch. I would rather bring sandwiches into the park! Can't be very filling.

I am sure most would.

OP never said it was a great thing, that he needed or wanted it, or that he would even eat it. It was just a, "Hey, look, a meal at Disney for .99!"

It was a bit of a riddle/joke, people are making way too much of it.

If I was that strapped for cash that I could only afford to buy ramen noodles for lunch, I would stay home and go when I can afford to eat properly. Just saying.

Thank you:) I love a good cuppa!

Am I missing something? Did the OP say what the meal was?

Yes, on page 1. A cup of Top Ramen Noodles.
Then the controversy began regarding healthy food v. Top Ramen.

The OP pointed out Ramen noodles at China which IMHO is a good, budget tip. It's a new idea and cheap. It's pretty difficult to find dollar food at Disney. For plenty of us Ramen is a meal. Good grief! I can't understand the criticism. OP never said it was healthy or the most delicious choice, but my daughter loves Ramen. If you were staying on site, you could pick that up to make in the microwave back at your resort (takes half the time vs sitting in hot water).

Thanks OP for posting the tip. BTW I get free cups of hot water at DLR all the time when it's cold. They give them as cheerfully as they do the free cups of ice water (except Starbucks at DCA-no go). I assume you can do the same at WDW.

Wow! I never thought my idea, in jest, would cause such a stir. But if you are hungry it works.

It is amazing how quickly a topic can turn into some really nasty postings! Ramen noodles is a meal for many. It is no worse than eating many other things. However, Nick said a meal for a dollar and that is what he provided! He did not say you could eat healthy or a lot--just a meal I am sure hungry for some ramen about now!!!! :confused3

Rock on !!!!! I just told my 2 big kids about this and they got very excitied :) They get a bit sick of food at Epcot and have whined in the past for Ramen, lol!!! I know what they are going to want when we go next year :rotfl:

I remember when the Dis used to be fun. Now people have just gotten nasty and snarky for no reason. :confused3

And some people like ramen. What's the big deal?

Can you use a snack credit, I wonder?

:rotfl:

Lighten up, peeps!
