I finally hurt myself seriously during volleyball. I've played for 5 years and this has never happened. Last March(07) I sprained my foot but last night, I did wayyyyyyy worse!

So we were playing queen of the court(3 on 3) i go up to hit a ball and when I land it ain't purdy. I thought I just rolled my ankle but when I looked down, my ankle was the size of a softball...I kid you not! Luckily my dad cam early to watch and when my coach saw my ankle(shes a nurse), she called him over and said get her to a hospital now! I was freaking out! So I get to the hospital and theres this little girl in the waiting room. She was like 3 years old......and I was in shorts because I just came from practice. She asked her mom, "Mommy, why does that girl have those silver things[crutches]? And why is her foot so big? And where's her pants?!" Anyways, I go back into the room. *NOTE: We got there at 9pm.* I get 3 xrays taken...the doctor comes back and says, "I think you have a small fracture, but I'm not sure." I start freaking out. HELLO?! Your a freaking doctor don't say I'm not sure! So he orders me to get 3 more xrays taken. When he comes back in later(about 1030ish), he says he's pretty sure I have a hairline(sp?) fracture in the middle of my left foot and I have a bunch of torn ligaments in my ankle. So the nurse comes in with this big ugly boot thing. And crutches. I got home about 1130 last night, didnt get to bed this 1230, and I woke up at 530 for school. So now I have a big ugly boot on my foot and I am on crutches. Yeah Im out for the rest of the volleyball season! But luckily its only 2 weeks left.....plus, I get out of gym(YAY! :p)

Thanks for listening.

**Basically, I broke my foot and I sprained my ankle all in one...yeah, I'm special**

Aww, get better =)
And when they tell you to not use your foot, seriously... don't use it.
I have had a hairline fracture in my ankle from running.
It was the most painful thing of my life.

Thanks. :)

I am going to try my hardest to not need the cruthches next week at school but it's not looking well. This is like so horrible! I get so tired going from class to class. And I feel so bad because my friends carry my backpack for me. And one of them bought me lunch today. I feel so horrible about it and I hate using the stupid crutches but I have no choice. :( Gawd this sucks!

OMG I am sooooo sorry!!!! I know how you feel! I've played volleyball for 7 years and I hurt myself my sophmore year and twice my junior year. Sophmore year: Broken thumb. I was playing volleyball at a church pic nic when one of the bratty kids ran up and tried to take the ball. . .well he went for it when I hit it. He ended up grabbing my thumb and pulling it back to my wrist. I was only 2 games into my season. It broke in 2 places.

Junior Year: 1st home game. I was starting setter and I went to set a ball when the other setter came running across the floor and literally body slammed me into the ground. We're talking football type tackle here! I landed on my thumb (yep same hand) and when I got up not nice things were coming out of my mouth. I shook it off and finished the game but the next day it was a lil swollen and pretty bruised. My coach refused to let me ptc until I went 2 the ER. So I went and I had a severly strained ligament (sp?). I was soooooooo mad! Then when I finally could play again my hand got rammed in2 the floor right b4 the game!!!! I played with my pinkie finger broken and taped.
So yeah I know how u feel and I know it sux having to watch from the bench. I sorry!

That sucks! I'm so upset I have to sit our final tournament. I'm on a 16-1 club team[[I was moved up]] and we were supposed to play our 15-1 team. Today when I went to school, they[[members of the 15-1 team]] were all like Thank god you're hurt! Now we may have a chance!  WHAT?! EXCUSE ME?! Thanks guys. @_@

That is sooooo MEAN!!!!! I feel so sorry for you!!!!!!!!! c this was my senior year and I ended up quitting bc of all my injuries. . .my coach said that I was too far behind the other players. . .just come back strong and "kick some ace!" (sorry thats an inside joke with me and my buds)

Aww, sorry sweetie!

Oh and sorry about not answering the text this morning, my phone was dead. I didn't get it charged until a few hours ago because the whole day was pretty...emotional for me.

Anyhoo, get better!

freshman year: did fine. no injuries, no pain, anything of the sort.

sophomore year: rolled ankle, physical therapy for shoulder pains.

junior year: lots of ice for the shoulders, sprained thumb, rolled ankle (twice), and a twisted knee on the last day of the season.

compare this to my record in track and field:

freshman year: in and out of the trainer's room due to my feet/ankles, rolled ankle (three times due to the unevenness of our field that we ran on), strained hamstring, strained abdomen.

sophomore year: lots of ice for the shoulders, taped feet from my toes to half way up my shins, no running, rolled ankle (twice, again due to our running surface), one stab wound from a javelin (my foot... IT WENT THROUGH MY SHOE!), and a strained back from shot put.

junior year (mind you, we're only three weeks into our season): rolled ankle (twice...due to potato sack relay races), strained hamstring, no running for 2 weeks, lots of ice, huge cuts on my knees (potato sack relays), and a large array of bruises from various throwing practices on tar covered in sand due to the 4 feet of snow on our track.

but never had a broken bone. I like using crutches, though. I needed them my sophomore year after the second time I rolled my ankle and my freshman year after the third one and after I twisted my knee this year. Andy just gave up on giving me them. When you go visit him, you're supposed to sign in and put your name, grade, and what body part hurts. I walked in, signed in, and wrote "ankle, knees, hips" he checked it and told me that next time I could just write "train wreck".

USE THEM! Walking prematurely can be really bad for your foot!

If I followed this right, it was the opposing team that said that, correct? While it is a little unsportsmanly, I'd take it as a compliment. It reads to me like they were afraid that they'd lose flat out if you played, which means that they see you as a really good player. It's a twisted form of respect to me because it happens so often in track.

we had 4 setters including me on our team and one of them got seriously hurt during a game because she set a serve (deffinately not the smartest thing to do) anyway when she went to the doctor they said she broke her thumb and she might not be able to set any more but then she went to a physical therapist and he said that she would be able to set in like a weeks time with a special brace on her hand but she was out for like 2 weeks. it was really bad because she is going to college for volleyball to be a setter.

Awhe,Brit I hope you feel better soon!
And use the crutches! If you don't you could make the fracture worse!
Plus, you get out of class early. ;) At least in my school.

:(

i think you should totally take advantage of crutches though.
walking while your hurt is so much harder than walking with crutches.

plus atleast yours heals.

i tore my lateral meniscus and had surgery to cut it out.
which kept me off my feet for like three weeks.
not gooood.

lol Yes, this was the opposing team...and I dont mean to sound big headed but they are deathly afraid of me. Whenever I scrimmage against them, they are so scared and ask me to be nice....its quite funny actually. But when they first said that I was shocked...not Im ok with the comment because I am taking it as a compliment! lol
