I have the same problem. And I doubt it will be any better. I am going to ride it anyways. But I try and do it at a point in time when the impact will be less. Say right before a hotel break or a parade or show. So I have time to recover if I need to. For me that is usually 30-60 minutes if it gets me.Do you think the new ride would be any better? My hubby and kids would love to see it over and over and I don't want to miss out either. I don't feel sick on any of the other rides, just star tours.![]()
We are going in Sept. We have not yet seen Ariels new ride, Star Tours or the new show on the facade of It's a Small World. Should be a great trip.Well I haven't been fortunate enough to ride the new version yet, but I would assume that it will feel pretty similar as far as the movements are concerned. Who knows though, they could have smoothed it out a bit.
..or, just close your eyes at the parts that get to you...
Have you tried taking bonine? A lot of people take that the morning or night before they know they're going on rides that give them motion sickness and they swear by it. It lasts 24 hours, so just pop it early and be on your merry way.![]()

It's better. Much smoother.
The attraction uses passive 3D, not active 3D, the latter which would make those prone to motion sickness more nautious.
I rode the new star tours ride last Friday during the preview and I did not feel sick at all!
I never rode this ride before because it always made me sick, but I won the contest and I couldn't transfer it to my husband, so I went ahead and took my 10 year old DS. I told him before it started that I was probably going to just close my eyes and he told me to just try it. So I did just that and it was AWESOME!
Definitely different technology. My advice is to go and try it!
I rode it last Saturday. I used to get sick on the older version. I wanted to ride at least once on the new one. I did take a Bonine pill just in case. I found that it was a lot smoother than before. I was also worried about the 3D part making it worse. I think what the glasses mainly did was make the screen look really clear. One of the young boys with us didn't even realize it was a screen! I really enjoyed the ride. I think I will try it next time without the Bonine.
Also, my 70 year old father went on the ride and loved it! I was worried about him going on because I remember how rough it used to be. He said it is his new favorite ride. He doesn't enjoy Big Thunder as that is too rough for him. So, if you can go on all the other rides I am thinking you might be okay on the new Star Tours.
You don't need a prescription for Bonine and might find it in the hotel. If not you can find it at Target or Walgreens which are close (driving or bus) by DL.
Definately give it a try because it was amazing! I can't wait to go on again!
This really works on Star Tours. Or look away from the screen.
For this type of attraction (where the vehicle isn't moving anywhere, just tilting) the part that can make you motion sick is the disconnect between what your eyes are telling your brain (when looking at the screen) and what your inner ear is telling your brain.
For some reason, when your brain gets confused, it tells the stomach to do bad things!![]()
