I slipped in the mud carrying groceries in from the car today. I went down hard on my knee, turned my ankle, hit my head and hip. After I crawled into the house and cleaned up (I was covered in mud), DD took me to walk-in care. No concussion, no hip injury, severe sprain in my ankle and something is going on with my knee, but it's so swollen and has so much tissue damage that they can't tell if there is ligament damage or not, so I'll end up with a referral to an orthopedist. I am lucky that I slipped on mud instead of ice and that the ground isn't frozen, or I could have been I serious trouble. I JUST got over the flu- had to cancel last weekend's plans due to flu- and now I have to cancel the rescheduled plan because I am to be fully non-weight bearing, no driving, keep it elevated, etc. until the swelling goes down enough so that my foot isn't cold, numb, and tingling. GRRRR. Mostly I am just sore all over, my knee and ankle hurt, and I'm whiney and disappointed to not be able to go visiting this weekend. PLEASE be careful when traipsing around outside in the winter weather!

It's really amazing how terrifying falling becomes as you get older. About three days before our Bermuda cruise while doing laundry I slipped on the basement stairs and fell down half of them. AMAZINGLY I wasn't hurt except for some severe bruising (which probably scared our fellow cruisers when I wore shorts!) but I swear I saw my life flash before my eyes and sat there sobbing as I took stock trying to figure out if anything was broken. I was TREMENDOUSLY lucky!

I hope you heal up quickly!

Oh no….I’m so sorry to hear this. Sending hugs and good vibes your way to feel better soon.:wizard:

Very sorry to hear of your fall and subsequent aches and pains, leebee. Take it easy, rest, heal.

You also, EW.

Good health for you both.

So sorry you're hurt, but glad it's not more serious. Be sure to follow doctor's advice and take it easy. Let people do things for you. Watch some fun Christmas movies with a cup of hot tea and a few goodies. Hope you feel better soon!

Oh, no! You poor baby! Just before the holidays...
Settle in with movies and hot cocoa and rest up. Prayers for speedy healing.

I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for sharing your story as a cautionary tale for all of us. It's so easy to slip when things are wet, muddy or icy!

Rest! Ice, compression, pain meds.

Hugs and sympathy from me.

Recovering from broken knee cap surgery 7 weeks ago today and all the tendon, ligament, bruising, and damage that comes with it. Icing my knee now.

Hang in there. It may be a road to recovery, but you'll get there. Be patient with yourself.

Oh no, @leebee. I’m so sorry. Sounds like a really nasty fall. Agree wholeheartedly, glad it was mud and not ice. Still really really stinks though. Missing events again, very disappointing.

May your ankle and knee not be too serious and wishing you a very speedy recovery. :flower3:

I would be a little surprised if you didn’t get a concussion, @leebee, with a head hit like that! See how your head feels over the next few days, and be extra careful so you don’t hit it again! (Concussion on top of concussion is to be avoided, as I was told by my neurologist when I had my concussion.) I hope the rest of your body heals, too. You will be very sore tomorrow!

Oh, @leebee ! That's really scary-I'm sorry you're having to deal with this, especially your knee. I hope it heals quickly! Sending good vibes.

I’m so sorry to hear of your injuries, hopefully you can get your knee looked at quickly to assess the damage. Wishing you quick healing!!

I actually thought of you while I was waiting for x-rays! I have shooting pain in the kneecap and thought, "I wonder how that person on the DIS is doing with her broken kneecap!"

The PA at ConvenientMD was very concerned and thorough- I think it's because I'm "elderly" (I'm 66). She checked me out carefully from head to toe, made sure I passed concussion test (although I still have a headache), neck and back, hips, etc. My hips threw her as they normally turn outward (I can sit on the floor with the soles of my feet together, knees winged out to either side). She says she usually only sees this with significant hip trauma and although I assured her that this is how my body works, she kept coming back to it. DD finally sat on the floor has showed her that her hips work that way, too- just one of those family traits, I guess! Thanks, everyone, for your kind words- and be careful out there!
