charl.zurg...join the throngs! I always paid what Disney said and never ?ed it..oh well live and learn...and these boards are great for that!:wave2:

Our drive from here is usually around 6 1/2 hours or so..... it depends on stops for us.

But it doesn't seem to take that long anymore.

Welcome CZ!!!

Welcome Charleston Zurg to the Diz!

When I first discovered this board (actually my wife found it in an article about WDW in Family magazine or Woman's Day or some other women's mag) we were planning to go twice a year and looking for ways to save money. Turns out, we just completed our fourth trip this year and went five times last year!! Needless to say, we invested in annual passes some time ago.

We are looking into the Disney Vacation Club but are still on the fence. I think it will save us money in the long term, but just so much up front. I'm really concerned that we can only go when school is out (my wife is a teacher) and we might not be able to get a reservation during peak season. Anyone know how hard it is for Christmas week and first full week in April?

I live about 25 miles south of Atlanta and usually, depending on how much road construction is happening south of Coredele, we can make Valdosta in just over 3 hours where we stop for pottie break, snack and top off the tank before crossing the line into the high-priced gas zone. From Valdosta we usually make it to WDW in about 3 hours. I set the cruise on 75 mph and stick to that as much as possible.

I recently read that Jeckyll Island is only 158 miles from WDW. I don't think that was correct though; maybe that was nauticle miles or as the crow flies. I would believe 258 miles a little quicker. Boy if I were that close, it would be at least once a month!

My Dh works with a guy whose family goes yearly and always stays at the Beach Club. When DH told him our room was $179 this summer he just about you know what in his pants! We paid full freight at a mod our first trip too, since then it's been codes in deluxes all the way. We've done Contemporary, BC and Dolphin.

Welcome. I found these boards by accident while planning our first trip. I read and read and never posted. It saved me so much money and after finding out how buying AP's let you have more trips and they could save on the resorts, I've been hooked ever since.

Hi ya CZ! Just wanted to let you know we were another family who paid "rack rate" before we found these boards! In fact I was preparing for our first trip with DD when I found these boards just days before we were leaving. My mouth hit the floor when I started reading about how we could have been saving! We had already paid for the trip in its entirity through WDTC so no last minute rebooking for us. Well now we're DIS smart and always have a discount!!! So welcome to the boards!!!!

sm4987, you have really made up for all those visits without posting! :rotfl:

Glad you finally came out of your shell. ;)
