I feel so horrible right now...

We were just driving back from my dad taking me and my 2 brothers to the season-opening game for the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team. We were still in the area, in downtown Tampa and we stopped at a traffic light. While we were waiting at the light, I noticed a man walking down the sidewalk. He was obviously coming from the game as well (he was wearing a flashing pendant that was given out at the game), but he was obviously in trouble. He was limping horribly and painfully, and every several steps he would double over or support himself on some tree or something. He looked like he was in really bad shape. I pointed him out to my dad, but then the light turned green and we had to drive on. I feel so bad for leaving him out there like that. I hope somebody stopped to help him and that he wasn't badly hurt, but I feel terrible just the same. I couldn't stop thinking about him all the way home. I know in my head that he could have been faking to try and trap someone, but it just didn't seem like it. So anyway, I feel like such a terrible person for leaving him like that, even though I didn't have a choice.:( :( What would you have done?

Well, I probably would have asked my dad if we could go back and help him.

Same.I would of tried to help and get mum/dad to stop the car and help or something. :)
I felt bad today because we went into town and there was this teenage girl and she was living on the streets and she had lost her blanket:(Its really sad:(

I credit you for being thoughtful.

My perspective: It was a good idea not to stop. Their are people out there that fake this stuff to mug people. Do people really go to a game by themselves? Even if he was sincerely hurt, I'm sure there were plenty of law enforment around. Don't beat yourself up over it.

You're a sweet person. Its horrible that we live in a world where being too nice will get you killed.

I've been called jaded. I've had it said that I'm disenchanted with society. I've been called older than I should be. But when it comes right down to it, I am jaded, I am disenchanted, and I'm 10 years older than my age says I am. I wouldn't have stopped. I wouldn't have considered it. I wouldn't feel guilty.

You don't know that the man was really hurt. You don't know that he wasn't faking. You don't know that he didn't mug or shoot or...do worse to the person that DID stop to help him.

You are a better person than I am, but we live in a word with enduced apathy. Its easier to live your life if you don't care about yourself or the people around you. When you care, you get hurt. Its like we're born nice and kind, but then the lights behind our eyes go out and apathy sets in.

That was sweet. Don't feel bad you at least thought about it. When we go to downtown Pittsburgh there are homeless people on the street and I feel so bad. When my class went on a feildtrip there was a homeless guy where we had to wait. and everyone was taking pics of him and making fun of him.. I felt so bad. :[

aww sorry you feel so horrible now, but at least you had the intentions of wanting to help him. Like some people said though, he could have not really been hurt and just trying to scam you or something.

As for me, I would also want to help him but wouldn't. I wouldn't trust anyone that I didn't know basically because that is the type of world we live in.

Well said, Sparx. Now that I've slept on it I realize that there was nothing I could have done, at least nothing that would have been smart. I agree that we aren't allowed to care anymore because caring will get us either hurt or killed. It's terrible when a society reaches that level of immorality and injustice.

BTW, you are very, very mature for your age. You sound older than me, when you're younger than my baby brother!

Didn't you at least speak up? I realize that it can be hard when the people you're with aren't exactly your friends or you're trying to impress them, but I think you should have at least said something. If nobody listened to you, then at least it would have made the homeless person feel a bit better to know that at least SOMEONE cared enough to try to stop the others' appalling behavior. :sad2:

i know what you mean... whenever i go to a baseball game on the way out there are always all those people that are standing out there playing music. I always feel so bad for them because they have so much talent, but are stuck out there playing for us for who knows what reason. :guilty: :sad2:

There are no words to really debate about this situation. The fact of the matter is that the world sucks in this area and all we can do is be as supportive and loving of those around us and hope that due to interconnectivity, miracles will happen.

PS - Why can't I stop thinking about that movie Pay It Forward?
