I feel sick- total cruise amount

Being a DVC member allows us to take a cruise for $95 plus airfare= a total of roughly $450 Gotta love DVC

You need to add in your cost of points and associated dues for those points.

I am also a DVC member, so this is not the true cost of your cruise. This is only the out of pocket cost.

Your cruise cost way more than that, since you have to count the hundreds of points you had to use, plus the dues cost for those points. :thumbsup2

Using points is a difficult event - there are steep cancellation policies, points are very high, and any changes result in new $95 fee each time. You are also not able to secure any OBC either.

Glad you are able to use DVC for cruises, but it is costly, especially when you compare those points to paying cash.

I'm sorry I wasn't trying to have you justify the dining plan.

Your numbers are over $8,000 for a free dining stay at a value resort, so that seems so high to me for 9 days. Now that you are saying it's QSDP, and no flights (sounds like you are driving), this amount seems so very high to me, but I just realized how expensive dog boarding was, and the other incidentals you have listed. Whew! Sorry, my math was not too sharp there for a second!

Have a fab trip! Tiger :)

I didn't take your post as needing justification :) I didn't explain it in my other post....so it did sound kind of funny to have free dining but still budget money for TS meals LOL

With 5 children it's not cheap....still it's outrageous if you compare it with any other vacations we've taken. Then again we priced out going on a pre-paid trip to NYC with a tour group for 3 nights and it was around 6000.00 (not including any gas we'd need to get to and from the bus terminal)....so I guess Disney really isn't that bad compared to some other trips. We're staying 9 days so again it adds up.

We have a stray dog/foster doggy this year too, that adds 190.00 to our boarding fee :( and of course with a family this big we have to drive the Suburban to fit all the kids and all our stuff so that adds a lot in gas.....they don't make electric SUVs LOL, probably couldn't afford one if they did LOL

Anyhow....I was just posting to clarify....I didn't think you were questioning my numbers or the dining plan. I should have put the QSDP fact in that first post and it might have made more sense.

A family of 7, and pets will surely add to the vacation budget!

I hope you have a wonderful trip! Tiger :)

This is why I will not do a Disney cruise, even though I would love to! You could take a couple cruises for that price on Royal Caribbean

I totally agree. I keep pricing Disney cruises, but when they are running about $1100 per person at the cheapest with no discount for the third person in a room, I just can't do it. Not when other cruise lines are doing the same thing for $450 a person with a discount on the third person. Plus, gratuities are higher on Disney.

We have had our DVC for several years and we have taken 14 trips using points that we are past the break even point so our trips don't cost that much. Plus there are only two of us in our family so paying cash cost way more than using points.
