Have you ever seen that commercial where the person hits their head and said "I should of had a V-8".
WELL I feel like that, I just bought 50 pts yesterday (signed paper work and it's in the mail)at my home resort AKV from Disney.

And my Guide never once told me that if I had waited just 2 days I could buy into the GFV (Well smack my head).

Called my Guide and left a message to have her call me back. I know I should have asked her at sometime ,but rumors swirl and was not sure if the points were really going to be offered this month or later in the year.

I know someones going to tell me "I can still book the GFV, but I wanted to buy there(pouting ).

Thanks for letting me rattle on...

I believe you have 10 days to rescind your deal. Don't know why you couldn't just wipe the AKV contract out and buy VGF.

I'm waiting to see what my Guide says this morning when she returns my call. And I'm not sure who I would talk to if I can't get a hold of her.

Look at your paperwork...it will tell you the exact process for canceling your purchase. Timeshares are governed by strict laws to protect the consumer. They must tell you how to cancel.

It's not too late. If your guide is anything like mine, he/she will be glad to help you re-work the paperwork to get you exactly what you want. Way back when, our guide helped us to recind our first contract so it could be re-done with a friends & family discount. As others have said, even if they're not "happy" to do it, they're required by law to let you opt out within the first 10 days of signing.

I just got a call from my Guide and the GFV goes on for sale to Members only tomorrow at $145.00 per point and the dues are 5.41. And the General public June 19.

So if I buy 50 points , I could only stay 2 nights in a studio in off season(17 points per night in adventure season).

So with my AKV points I can stay longer at my home Resort. So in way it all worked out.

And if ever on a whim and I want to stay at GFV, I'll rent from another member.

TIA:wizard:

But you could stay at AKV using the GF points for the same length of time.

might be tough to consistently get value villas at 7 months out. both they and the VGF villas are pretty limited in number.

hard to tell.

But you could stay at AKV using the GF points for the same length of time.

And it would be easier to get into AKL with GF points at 7 months than to get into GF with AK points at 7 months.

Buy where you want to stay, OP... You're still inside the rescission period...

You might still be able to get in at the 7 month mark using your AKV points, unless you always travel during the busy DVC vacation periods. We hope it will work for us and we'll probably use our AKV points.

But for October 2013, we ended up renting points for VGC. We are taking a Princess cruise out of LA and wanted to stay at DLR after the cruise. We noticed that every time we checked 7 months out some of the days were not available and we were stuck with beginning our DLR trip on a Saturday. So we ended up contracting David's Rental at the 10.5 month mark and within a week he had a reservation for us. That was a relief.

So did I read that right? Grand Floridian goes on sale today for current members??

Like Dean said, just because you have GF points doesn't mean that you have to stay at GF. Since you already have AKV points, you already have access to the value rooms at the 11 month mark. If you buy AKV at $145 your resale value on those points is about $70. If you buy VGF right now your resale value is (I'm estimating here) in the range of $120-130 pp.

Given that they are the same price, it seems like a no brainer in this case to buy VGF. Your initial post said that you felt like a schmuck for buying AKV in the wake of the VGF release. Don't try to talk yourself out of that feeling. If you felt it, it was real. Like others have said, timeshare law exists for this very reason. I would take advantage of it. Good luck! :)

Hmm... I have to agree with Dean and ELMC...
If you don't need the 11mo advantage on AKV I would totally go with GFV.
Specifically for the future resale value possibility.

But then again either one will get you into beautiful resorts... :)
