But yet I come home to find he has chewed open the bag of dry cat food and helped himself to more than he should have. There was a giant pile on the floor and he was guarding it. I know the other kitty had no part in this.

There is a big bowl full that is out for him. And I give him wet food twice a day. I swear if he ever got out people woul think he has not eaten for weeks.

My cat would do the same thing if I didn't lock the bag of food away in the laundry room closet. He has actually chewed through a ziploc bag of goldfish (and ate half the bag!), and an unopened Capri Sun before.

My cats do this as well. I had to put their cat food in a rubbermaid container.

Now he is passed out on the couch looking remarkably similar to a beached whale. But I swear he is smiling. I hope he doesn't get a crunchy cat food hangover.

If you're looking for a solution ... sounds like kitty may be bored? They make Kong toys for cats now, and my cats love them! I load them up with cream cheese and treats and hide them when I leave in the morning. Keeps them occupied for hours.

You might also want to try NOT having a big bowl of food out for him all day long. My cats get canned food in the AM and dry food at night, and nothing (except the Kong treats) in between. They eat when they're fed and then don't go searching for food in between.

Wish that method worked for me! :lmao:

:earsboy:

Mine does that even when she has food in her bowl. She also does it with the dog food bag, so we have to make sure both are out of her reach. I think it's fun for her. Even though I give her lots of play time and she has plenty of toys and a dog to play with, it seems to be her little game whenever she has access to a bag of food.

Yes, we leave the cat food in the garage because our cats do the same. I don't think you should assume that you can leave a bag of any food out with animals around. After all, they are animals.

The most common phrase I seem to be yelling at my cats lately is, "Do I not feed you?!?!"

There's plenty of food down. Trust me, they are NOT undernourished  But one of them is snacking at the neighbour's house (eating their cat's leftovers :headache:) and the other is killing half the local bird population :headache::headache:

Our new kitten likes to rip open food packages. He ate 2 lbs. of peppered beef jerky last week.

We had to buy a rubbermaid container to keep the cat food in after one of ours realized how easy it was to chew through.

My cats have food out for them all day, every day and yet when we have people over to dinner, the cats sit by their feet and meow pathetically like we starve them. People are always saying to us "are they hungry? Do they need food?" and I have to point to the giant bowl of food and their overflowing treat box.

So there's a full bowl of dry and he gets wet twice a day but still rips into the bag? Wow, I've had a dozen cats or more and never had one act like THAT! LOL! :rotfl: How undignified for a cat!!!

glad to hear my cat isn't the only one that eats constantly.

He always rips into his dry food bag. He also loves:

-Beef Jerky (has been known to rip open bags or chew thru the corners)
-Lunch Meat (if you leave a sandwich on the counter, he jumps up & bats it off onto the ground. He also knows the sound of the lunchmeat drawer in the fridge opening & will come running)
-Spearamint Gum (he'll rip open a whole pack. he doesn't eat it, he just licks it)

Sounds a lot like my boyfriend's cat! He gets wet food for breakfast & dinner and crunchies as a snack. Not enough for him. He's constantly pestering everyone in the house for more food!

I swear it is like a cruise ship buffet at my home and it is NEVER good enough.
The conversations I have with other cat owners on the pet food aisle always make me laugh, they totally own us.

Smiled when I read the OP's message. Reminds me of one of our cat Blink's adventures. Long story short, he went outside and quickly learned to spot easy prey. He hunted anything that moved, according to our neighbours, he once even went after an injured Canada Goose. He also believed in foraging, and would play "poor starving kitty" for the benefit of little girls in our area. Somewhere he developed a taste for chocolate ice cream. One day he was brought home by a pair of little girls--who said, "Does Blink live here? Do you feed this cat?" How embarrassing!

Bad kitty! Ours has a bowl full of food, but he's way more interested in our poor dog's food & she's too much of a wuss to do anything about it. DH & I were joking that our kids' first words will be "No!", "Mine!", and "Get down!"...all because that's what we say several times a day to our bad (but oh-so-cute) kitty that likes to steal things & jump on the kitchen table. :cat:
