I Fear CHange

I miss the tram - it was a lot quieter than the busses! And the Swamp Trail too! That was always such a peaceful, quiet, relaxing walk. Can you still rent tandem bikes from the bike barn? We had a blast trying to ride those when I was younger.

I miss renting a golf cart by the hour or getting it for the whole day for under $20.
I don't remember the trams being any quieter than the busses but they were much nicer to just ride around and see the campground as long as the weather was nice.

I also miss river country and swimming in the lake at the beach.

Ohh!! and the horse drawn ice cream wagon!

The trams didn't have air brakes. When sleeping in my tent the last time I tented, all I could hear was the brakes as the busses stopped at each bus stop. It woke me up quite a bit. (But the last time I was at the Fort we were in the cabins ... with air conditioning and the windows closed. Didn't even notice them !!)

I miss pizza at Trails End AFTER the fireworks and the man playing the banjo while we ate it. Now, you have to go to bed when the fireworks are done.

I also miss the full petting zoo.

You know, I think they had to get rid of the trams because so many parents didn't have to buy park tickets since their kids were just as happy to ride the tram around, and around, and around, and around........

Where the heck was I during the horse drawn ice cream cart????????

You know, i also miss being able to tell ANYONE how to get anywhere in the world because I knew what colored flagged bus they had to take, and that you could go anywhere from the TTC. I felt sooo smart back then. Now it is almost like a survivor episode when you try to give someone instructions.:scared:

I miss my GI Joes. That's why we better have a boy.

Not wishing to show my age, but I had one of the originals when I was a kid, along with some of the accessories. My mom sold it at a yard sale when I was in college for a QUARTER!!!! I have not to this day forgiven her. Anyway, about 3 or 4 years ago I was in the World of Disney store and they had a huge shelf full of remakes of these original GI Joes in commemorative boxes. I remembered what mine had looked like (Army, blond hair) and I spent a good hour digging through the whole lot of them until I found the twin to my old GI Joe. I didn't care how much they wanted (I think it was around 50 bucks). I bought the thing and he is now in my private office with all of my Disney collection.

I've seen those in Downtown Disney! The remakes, they had them in the toy store in the Marketplace. Just like you said, full size remakes, I was looking through them a couple months ago myself.

My GI Joe experience was during the 80's, when the cartoon was all the rage and the GI Joes were much smaller. Every Christmas was great though, we would get some new GI Joe toy, like a hovercraft or tank, and then spend the next week having fake battles with them.

That was the SINGING FISH dude that I spoke about in a previous post!!! He sort of looked like & sounded like Jim Stafford. It might of been Jim Stafford for all I know. Back then - before he achieved stardom - he used to entertain at a bar on St. Armand's Circle in Sarasota.

"Where the heck was I during the horse drawn ice cream cart????????"

Me too!!! I remember the horse-drawn cart selling breakfast items,,, but not an ice cream cart!!!

:rolleyes1

I miss the train more than you can imagine. That to me still signifies all that was "original" about the Fort :(

I completely and wholeheartedly agree. When I researched what happened to the trains afterward, I became even more melancholy.

Here is a link to the preservation of engine #4 by the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society. It is my mission to go out there and see all the trains...

There is also a cool full trip video of the trains as well at this site...

I can still hear it's whistle...

Yea, that's one of my favorite sites, I go there all the time! So much information, it's great!
