I expected to see this board exploding

Preplanned move after Chapek did all the dirty work. However, I'm betting no one thought when they made the 1st move how ugly it would get.

Nothing gets changed, but nothing gets worse, b/c Disney wanted all the changes Chapek made.

To parody some posts I’ve seen in the past.

This is not what Walt would have wanted!!!

If Walt was alive he’d be spinning in his grave!!!

I get the feeling from some of Iger's comments after he left that he wasn't totally on board with the Chapek appointment. So, I do think during the transition he saw some things he wasn't satisfied with ...but he wanted out and the Board wanted Chapek.

I came on and didn’t know which thread to hop on first especially since it happened so randomly and quickly.

It also happened at a VERY weird time. I’m on the east coast, and I was watching the Walking Dead finale (yes my emotions at 9:45 when I hopped on Twitter during a commercial were everywhere lol).

It was really interesting to see reactions. I saw a couple from press inside Walking Dead that it was a shock in the room to the press as they all had things silenced and found out. I’d love to know what it was like at Elton’s Dodger Stadium concert.

I didn’t see video of WDW but I did see video of DLR when everyone is finding out.

This is what I LOVE about the DIS, I find out all kinds of stuff that I might otherwise miss. Thanks for this piece of information. I can only hope it will be for the better.

Funny thing, after I typed my reply, I heard it announced on the news channel I was watching. See I got my "news" from the DIS before I saw it on TV. Way to go DIS!

I personally am not a fan of Bob Iger or a fan of Bob Chapek. It's like which is the better of two evils; and the better evil is Bob Iger. There is a fine line between earning money and keeping the stakeholders happy while keeping the customer base happy feeling they are getting a fair value for the premium price they are paying. Bob Chapek failed miserable with the later. I know that he did such a fine job of turning me off of the whole park experience, that I have no desire to spend my vacation money at WDW. Hopefully that will change in the future.

Chapek was never the right fit for CEO of Disney. It's a company that demands a CEO with a real presence...and he didn't have that. And managerially....he was a nightmare. In his defense, he did begin as CEO on the eve of a once in a 100 year world-wide pandemic. It's a good thing....hopefully Iger can right the ship. Lots of headwinds, and the media (and certain leaders) are on the war path with Disney....using the company to keep the culture war fires burning for their own gain. It won't be easy.

I think Iger was a good CEO. I don't agree with all of his moves, like the Fox purchase, but I think he got more right than wrong. Chapek was a failure but some of that failure has to fall on Iger. One of your jobs as CEO is to groom your replacement so there is a smooth succession when you leave. It is possible Iger had different people in mind but the board fought him. I don't think D'Amaro has the breadth of experience to run Disney yet. He has heavy theme park experience and it is possible he has some financial management history from his time at Gillette but Disney is so large it needs someone with more than theme parks experience.

I'm not sure much will "go back" but hopefully he gets more strategic beyond the current quarter which seemed to be all Chapek cared about. It is ok to make less now for greater gains down the road and a lot of the more recent decisions are setting the company up for problems down the road.

I'm pretty sure the OP just meant the Board as in DISboards, not necessarily the Community Board. Regardless it's absolutely a topic someone would have created a thread on the CB and the OP wasn't the only one, another member created a thread 1 minute after the OP (logically likely didn't see the OP's thread at that time).

At the very least, I hope they get rid of having to make park reservations and the flexiblity to park hop when you want!

TC :cool1:

I personally think a whole lot won't change. Iger put a lot of pieces in play before he
left and Chapek inherited. Chapek never seemed a good fit. However if people think
Iger is coming in and will magically lower prices they are mistaken. I will be happy if they
just eliminate park hopping restrictions and RESERVATIONS. However I doubt that will
happen also.

To me this move is more in response to the hemorrhaging of D+.

Iger’s contract until December 2024 should cover a period that will include the 100th anniversary celebration for Disney, the challenge to potentially expiring intellectual property copyrights, a predicted recession and a presidential election. They are going to need and benefit from a strong, experienced CEO.

IMHO the best thing Disney can do is stay out to the culture wars. They made a big mistake (IMHO) getting involved in the first place. Disney is a business not a person with opinions. Business needs to stick to business which (again IMHO) means appealing to all the people not just a certain group. Their previous actions alienated approximately 50% of the people, that doesn't seem like good business to me.

Firing the CEO makes a big splash when it happens but isn't going to magically solve whatever issues they are having. Likely the real inside story behind what is going on won't be a public discussion. Disney COMPANY is now this huge conglomerate of lots of unrelated companies. Finding any one person to successfully run all of them will be a challenge no matter who they choose.

They are intricately tied throughout history. You may want to remember how many businesses operate including their mission statements, their charitable options, their employee policies and more. Impartial businesses rarely exist. People gloss over this fact but truly take a deep look into the businesses you patronize, go look up organizations you may donate to (be it time, money or items), etc.

Disney has always had their thoughts out there but how and how loud varied over time.

That may be true and yes I have seen it before. Nike and Coke come to mind. I don't buy either. I think maybe Disney needs to tone it down and better yet, stay out of it. Just my two cents.
