I don't want to wait more than 40 minutes for any ride

I agree with you on not wanting to wait that long for any ride. I don't mind 20 mins but for some rides you just have to suck it up and wait. If you don't have a FP+ to those big rides like splash, space, or 7dmt then the wait it going to be 40+ mins.

Not if you go at rope drop or during Wishes and later.

Yes, you are doomed. Run, run away!! Just kidding. I'd echo what everyone else has already said regarding rope drop, FP+ and EMH if you're eligible for those. However, reality is that if you want to go on a popular attraction mid-day and don't have a FP+, yes you may have to wait 40 minutes. That said, in a two week trip, I can count on one hand the number of times we waited that long in a line.

am I doomed.. lol.. going end of June..

Definitely not! We went end of June, first of July. Do rope drop and hit the big rides first, save your FP+ for later in the day when it gets busier. You can get a lot done in the first 2 hours. Then do the secondary rides/attractions that don't normally have much of a late for afternoon or evening.

We hit a non-EMH park at RD every day then hop to WS around noon for F&W. I can't recall the last time we waited more than 30 mins for a ride in any park. Get there early, use FP+ and unless you're there between Christmas and NY you'll do fine.

Luckily, with intense planning and the tips I've read on DIS over the years I have never waited more than 20 mins for a ride. We have small children so that was never an option. I think 40 mins would be my personal max wait time.

We were at WDW 5/20-5/26. The longest that we waited in a line was 30 minutes the 2nd time we rode Kali at AK and that was the FP line. (It was a cluster).

I had my top 3 Fast Passes set up each day, usually finishing the last of the 3 between 12-1. We did rope drop some days and were there within the hour of opening the other days.

I did not have a ride plan on any day other the the original FP+ selections. We rode everything we wanted each day and most of the popular rides more than once each day by utilizing the FP system. You are not doomed! Enjoy your trip!

My high number is 25 minutes. It's a luxury when you go more than once a year, it's not a heartbreaker to skip a ride because the next trip isn't too far off. :)

So true. Visit the lower crowd parks.

We had a 20 minute wait for 7DMT during the Electrical Parade and Fireworks last week. It IS possible. Just... be patient and wait. It'll post a 60 minute wait time but the line clearly wasn't that!

Actually thy is very doable. I have been with a group of 16 on a day that Epcot closed to capacity our longest wait was 30 min that was because the ride went down for 10 min. Lots of research and a good touring plan pays off.

We use rope drop, FP and EMH to minimize longer waits, but if it's a ride I really want to go on that day and the wait is long, we'll patiently wait. I don't subscribe to the "3 minutes is never worth 60 minutes" argument, for a few reasons:
  1. The thrill, charm or novelty of those 3 minutes might be enough to justify 60 relaxing minutes hanging out, talking to my loved ones in line. An analogy to this is a wedding: many people spend endless time and money preparing for an event that will be over in just a few hours, but the memories created are worth it to them. It's the same thing at the parks for me, on a smaller scale.
  2. The time we spend in line is a relaxed, together time with my loved ones. If I were doing a solo trip, I might feel differently, but I don't like traveling solo.
  3. We live out of state and can't drop in to WDW anytime we feel like it. So if there are rides we want to ride, we'll ride them when we have the chance, even if that means a wait. Otherwise I've wasted a lot of money and time in preparation for the trip just to be disappointed.

Nope, went with 11 people mid July last year. Longest wait 15 minutes. Rope drop, and Fast passes starting at 10 am. We did take advantage of a MK EMH, and a MK 8am opening. We got so much done in that first hour.
