I currently have ressies for the Contemporary for the first week of January. We are bringing another family member and need a place for 6. I'm overwhelmed at all the great off-site places and am starting to narrow down my selections. But now I'm hearing that some of these places that I thought were just great hotels are actually timeshare resorts. OK, so how to do I distinguish which places are going to make me sit through a presentation and which resorts aren't. I don't want to do that...it's not even an option! I don't even want anyone calling me up.

If someone can help me out here, I'd appreciate it. :) :)

It's easy; if you book the room as if it was a hotel, they can't force you to sit through a speil.

If you book it at a "special" rate, or they offer free park passes or money, then check the fine print to see if there is a requirement that you sit through the presentation.

I've stayed in plenty of timeshares just booked like a hotel room, and they never even asked if I wanted to do the presentation.

One thing to check for is the housekeeping; some timeshares (the cheaper ones) may not do it every day, so if you want it, make sure you check to see that they do it every day.

Have you considered a vacation home rental? You will have tons of room, close to the parks and it really is wonderful to go back to the house in the evening, spread out, swim in the pool and etc

It's up to you but they aren't that bad (the presentations) and they pay well. For 90 minutes, you have to listen to them talk to you about the resort and throw some funny math numbers at you but just say no and that's it. I've sat through a number of them with my wife. For our 90 minutes we have received a minimum of 2 attraction tickets (one time we got 4, another time we got $100 cash) and a free breakfast. They usually have some type of child care program while you are at the presentation so the kids can do crafts or play video games and they eat free too. A pretty good deal if you ask me. the secret is to schedule the presentation early so you have the whole day left. And as I said, just say no. I love staying at the orlando timeshares but I wouldn't want to own one. The HGVC, a great spot, charges over $800 for annual maintenance now. That's what I usually pay for a week of rental (or better) and I don't have $10K to $20K tied up in the resort.

We've stayed at a number of these resorts. The are great, lots of room, everything taken care of, lots of resort activities for all the members of the family but I'll keep renting and put the $15K away for College educations.

Good luck.

Sorry, but I am with the OP. My vacation time is limited and I don't want to get stressed fighting with these people. I did one and at 90 minutes I had to get flat out rude to get rid of the idiot and then they spent 10 minutes basically YELLING at me for wasting thier time. NEVER AGAIN! I do own DVC, but at that was pretty easy (as was Marriott)

Genrally if you pay a resonable rate you don't have to go to the timeshare. If you get one of those great deals (ie. 3 nights for $50) then plan to go!

Well, maybe I've been lucky or maybe it is because I have done these tours at Hilton/Marriott/Sheraton resorts but I haven't had any problems. Yes, there was some pressure but I don't argue with the guy. I just smile, have another Krispy Kreme, and tell them I'm not ready to buy. I definately don't get upset. Then we collect our attraction tickets/cash and we're on our way by 8:30am.

I'm surprised that Disney got you since their units are even deeded but I know they are nice.

If you rent a week through skyauction.com you don't have to do a timeshare presentation unless you want to... Good prices for a week also.

have u thought about a condo or vacation villa, could be cheaper and fit all of your with privacy, they have 2 and 3 bedrooms

if you go through www.skyauction.com or www.condodirect.com

you don't have to go too any timeshare presentation....

the only time you have to go is when your vacation was brought directly though the timeshare and includes a timeshare presentation.

you will be asked - just say "NO"

WE generally go on a timeshare exchange week and some resorts try to get you to do the meeting/presentation and some don't. If they do ask, just say no--the first time. After that, we just turn off the ringer and let them leave a message.

Why spend 90 minutes of your hard earned vacation listening to some bozo try to sell you timeshare ????? I am staying at www.orlando-rental-home.com this week, $100 per night and no tour 3 bedrooms 2.5 baths beautifully clean with everything you need and close to Disney!!
