This just happens when you speak your piece and others are not in agreement with you, it may just be your opinion but you get jumped on about it. I used to subscribe to another forum and it got way out of hand, seems that's where this board is headed, too opinionated people.

These boards or forums were susposed to give the novice and professional insights to doing the world, things people usually miss, don't know how to do and so on but when a newbie asked a question, say maybe refillable mugs or pool hopping, it starts and endless debate that all the poster wanted was what was right and allowed. Hence the flame suit, rolling eyes, pop corn munchers. It really doesn't bother seasoned readers but the new person gets an undeserved ream job, flamed and then the thread is closed.

Can't figure why we all can't have a normal, conservative forum where questions can be asked, reply given without the bickering and harshness, there would be no need for moderators and closing of threads. There has been so many endless debates and questions asked on the same topic its like no one used the seach window and gets their answer. Its the same topics over and over, nothing new and interesting to users.

My 2 cents, go and flame me, I don't really care.

I agree. My poor cousin made the mistake of posting a question about her son turning 3 while on the WDW trip. She wondered if she should pay or not! They sent the poor girl running for her life! I felt so bad for her. She hasn't been back!

I agree with you. The newbies are just looking for a black and white answer sometimes. Just give it to them and drop it please!
I would hate for these boards to go down the tubes too. I love it here!!!!!

It's an open discussion board, and with 100,000 + members people will have very varied opinions. I never learned anything new from a group that didn't have a few heated debates at times. Even outright arguments, provided they are not personally abusive, are the stuff online communities are made of. Often as not people complain that they are being flamed simply because someone doesn't agree with them, or critiques their post. Then the whining starts, "why can't we all just get along", "you must be having a bad day", etc - which really means you are "wrong" because you disagree or post something they don't like. Those who want nothing more than agreeable warm and fuzzy feelings need a mirror and a tape recorder - not a discussion board. To those that can't handle a good debate I say too bad, life's like that, here and IRL.

BTW, I don't mean that its okay people get flamed for asking a simple question, but all too often ANY comment that is in simply in disagreement with someone is labelled flaming or a personal attack. And this DB is chock full of oversensitive whiners.

I don't consider it a flame when someone posts their opinion or point of view and it happens not to agree with mine. I always considered flaming to be when someone attacks you and condems you for your opinion in order to support their own belief.

That happens a lot on the Community Board, especially religious topics. And I've been involved in a few of those threads where my opinion has gone through the "flames" b/c it differs from someone else's. The posters seem to take offense and are very much on the defensive (way too much IMO).

But it's not just with religious topics, it can be with anything. Heaven forbid you have a different opinion or viewpoint than someone else .

Why can't we just have discussions where posters are not bashed/flamed b/c of a different opinion

Exactly! Some folks get this whole your wrong and I'm right attitude and want to pick you apart in order to look like they are more intelligent. Everyone is entitled to their strong beliefs and convictions and they shouldn't be ostracized for them. With a board this large theres bound to be a few bad apples. I've never been swayed to change my opinion on something because somebody called me names and told me I'm wrong. Now if someone intelligently tells me why they disagree, without disrespecting me, I may just see things their way and change my mind. It's definitely all in the approach.
