I feel like I woke up one morning, and she was everywhere. I've caught maybe five seconds of her show on the Disney Channel and found it to be extremely annoying. Who knows, maybe its cause I'm 22, but what is the big deal?:confused3 I really don't think she's a good singer at all. It sounds really forced.

What happened to the good ole days with the Disney Club and all the old school cartoons? lol. I'm getting old.

Hannah Montana succeeds based on the premise that “Miley Stewart” is an “ordinary girl” who does ordinary things (goes to school, deals with her brother, teenager issues). But her secret (known only to her family and a few close friends) is that she’s actually “Hannah Montana”… a world famous pop star. With her normal hair, she’s Miley. With the blonde wig, she’s Hannah. So, on the show she deals with the stuff every kid has to deal with, but she also gets to be a rock star. (And what 12 year old girl doesn’t think that’s cool?) That’s the "big deal": kids can identify with her “Miley” character and they have wishful identification with the “Hannah” character. They can buy the music, sing along; they feel like rock stars themselves.

As for the music… it has spent time at number 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and the concert tour sells out in minutes. She’s not going away anytime soon, and in my opinion the show has more value to it than a lot of things kids could be watching. Don’t be surprised if you hear her music on top-40 radio soon…it’s already on quite a few popular radio stations that would not be caught dead associating themselves with Disney Channel.

You may not like Hannah Montana because it wasn’t made for you, or you may not like it because you’ve only watched five seconds of it. The cartoons and Mickey Mouse Club? Kids won’t watch them anymore. Spongebob is the current cartoon-to-beat. As far as I know, PBS’s Zoom was the closest thing to MMC and it’s done.

I take it you didn’t care much for ABC’s Rockin’ New Years Eve?

From the moment I was "introduced" to Hannah Montana, it has been an everyday thing at my house. I have a daughter who is 11 years old (she posts under my sign-in occasionally -- usu. about HM or Harry Potter). I think I have seen every HM episode 3x. I know almost every song on Miley's 2 albums, and I know most of her bio because it has been quoted to me so often. I think it's an age thing. I teach 1st grade and Hannah/Miley is the rage for girls from that age up to ~14. Older girls (16-20) apparently like her too, judging by the numbers of ~18yo at the concert we attended. 3rd-6th grade cheer groups used HM songs for their dance routines this year. I don't think she's going away any time soon, so tune her out or join the fun. I've grown to like her myself (granted I haven't had much choice!). I went to the concert with my daughter and was impressed -- much more stage production and special effects than I expected. I think Miley is a pretty good singer. Not in the caliber as Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilara, but okay. There are so many on the radio now that I think "HOW did that person get a recording contract??" I don't think that about Miley. I think the above poster hit it on the head -- girls can relate to her character, Miley Stewart, and they all want to be a famous, glamorous rock star with awesome clothes.:cool1:

I think that Ms. Destiny Cyrus is a great at both acting and singing. I have watched HM late night when there is nothing else on TV. I do; however, agree with Rianne about the old school Dis cartoons!!! THe only chance I get to see them is when I stay at the AKL, because they always have them playing in the Mara.

the show isnt that bad... i only saw 1 episode (the one with the rock) and i kinda liked it lol... i dont really follow it though, but compared to a lot of other kids shows, i can see the appeal... now highschool musical.. thats what bothers me haha

I saw that epi tooo LOL I couldn't believe it when I saw the rock on the tv screen!!!

I'm a youth services librarian and there are HM books and graphic novels out now, and they look HORRIBLE! Especially the graphic novels! but kids eat them up, they are never on the shelves b/c they are constantly circulating. I've never watched the show, but I saw her in the WDW christmas parade on tv and didn't think it was too bad. It's kinda nice that kids have an age appropriate singer to like, that isn't too babyish or nerdy!

Well, I empathize with you, PrincessRianne, because I see her everywhere and I can't stand her music or her acting lol. I, too, find her to be very annoying. I usually don't bug about her though considering the stuff I used to listen to was probably annoying someone such as this is annoying me haha. The way I see it, as long as people don't force her music on me, live and let live. Like others have said, it's basically today's trend...so unfortunately it's something we're just going to have to deal with lol. It would be very nice for the old shows to come back...if only enough of the younger kids were still interested in things like that. *Sigh*. lol.
