I don't understand EMH

That's what happens when you only visit WDW every 4 years!

It is just like E-nights, except you don't have to pay, and EMH rotate among all four parks!

Three extra hours in the park as long as you are staying at a WDW resort.

They hand out wristbands. The evening EMHs are supposed to be pretty crowded, the early ones still tend to be a good deal. We got back three weeks ago and missed all of them - late ones were too late for our kids and the early ones didn't line up with our days. Result, low crowds, because we were almost always at a park that just had its EMH or was going to have it tomorrow.

You have to check in at one of several designated sites, show your resort card (they actually swipe it to check) and then get a wrist band.

DVC members get it if staying at one of the Disney DVC resorts. As stated by the others you don't have to leave, you present your resort ID at several locations and get a wristband. Each guest including children must have an ID and everyone must be there to get their own wristband. Only those with wristbands are allowed to ride.

There is no extra charge but you do have to have park admission.

just to clarify .. DVC members can use EMH just like everyone else .. just have to be staying on site .. it doesn't matter if it is a DVC resort or not..

If you are staying at a DVC resort at Disneyworld, then you can participate in the EMH program.

What I am saying is that a DVC member can be staying anywhere on property .. GF, OKW .. anywhere ... it doesn't matter.

All Disney resort guests can use EMH - DVC member or not.

Ok, thanks, I got it now. DS8 would enjoy evening EMH, DS4 will probably fall asleep so at least I won't be wasting $$ if I am just pushing him in a stroller for a couple hours.

From what I have been reading here, it sounds like the crowds during EMH evenings do not drop off very much. Of the people who go to WDW, what would you say is the percent that stay on property vs. off, and hence have EMH privileges?

This thread just made me realize something; since there's no real reason for non-resort folks to leave the park during EMH-PM, that's why the crowds are bigger than, say, during e-nights. Think about it: after a long day at the park, there's a lot to do during an EMH-PM that doesn't involve rides: a meal, outdoor shows, parades, fireworks, people-watching, etc. Not that I'm advocating tasering the non-resort folks once EMH-PM starts, but I bet if you could actually clear the park of all non-resort guests, the place would seem a lot less crowded....

I'd have to say a big Me Too. I thought they worked more like MNSSHP (etc) where the others WERE required to leave. Finally the huge crowds I've been hearing about make sense. Bummer!

Do the EMH start immediately after the posted closing time for the park or is there some lag. The reason I ask is that it would seem that if say a park closes at 7 there will still be people in line for rides who are not there for EMH and will only add to wait times and crowds. I assume they would not kick these people who have been waiting for the ride out of line.

There is no lag time between the park closing for off-site guests and the start of the EMH for on-site guests.
I don't know what they do about people already on line before the EMH starts. I know the Cast Members really make sure everyone has a wristband once the EMH starts. I cannot imagine what they do about people who were already on line. Maybe they cut the line off at some point and don't allow anyone else in line? I'm sure someone will now this.

Anyone who was already on line when EMH starts gets to go through and ride. At the beginning of EMH, CM's are posted at the entrance to rides, and near rides at 'wrist-banding stations', so that after that point, only folks with wristbands can get on line. At least that's how it worked when we were at MGM for EMH in early Oct.
