I don't Understand DVC - Help

Ok guys - I am going to sound really stupid here but I know nothing about DVC. I have a friend who has offered to possible let us use a week of their DVC. They don't have disney they have some sort of time share deal and disney is included. For instance when he pulled up a week I asked about in the summer he said it was showing Saratoga or Old Key Wester. We are 5 (my youngest will be 4) so I am not sure any of the properties would allow 5 without 2 rooms which I am assuming would be very expensive. He said something about just paying the maintenance fees? I really don't understand how all of this works. Do any of the DVC properties allow 5 to a room (ala Port Orleans?) Any knowledge would be appreciated.

DVC has studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom. at AKL a 1 bedroom fits my family of 5. I think at the two you mentioned you might need a two bedroom. I guess you would need to find out how many points are availiable to you to see if you have enough to rent a two bedroom

BLT 1BR's are also designed to sleep 5.
Most of the Old Key West 1 bedrooms have been renovated with an additional sleeper chair so they also sleep 5. if the trading company allows it, go with OKW. (OKW has the largest DVC rooms. An OKW 1 bedroom has about the same square footage as a SSR 2 bedroom)

Technically any DVC 1 bedroom will allow 5 to members (except the smaller AKV value sized rooms) but you have to provide bedding and towels for the 5th guest) But I'm not sure how that works for trade-ins.

it sounds like he has a timeshare that trades thru RCI. It is against RCi policies to "rent" a reservation reserved thru RCI. However, if it is a friend, IMHO, I think that is OK to reimburse him for his his maintenance fees--which are his annual fees--seems only fair as he is giving you his week to use for that year--it's not like this is a commmerical rental.
OKW can "legally" sleep 5 persons. I would go with OKW in a heartbeat--it is a big unit, perfect for 5 people, includes pull-out sofa and sleeper chair. They have a great kids club, great pool, etc. Unless his maintenance fees are a crazy amount, it is a really good deal for you.
