We haven't stayed at Ft. Wilderness since the 90s. This trip we'll probably be in loop 300, the only preferred pet loop as far as I can tell.

We have bikes and I was just planning on using them to get to and from the buses for the parks. Is this feasible? We're two 50 something adults in okay shape. I really don't want to shell out money for a cart if we don't have to.

No you certainly don't need a golf cart. We bring bikes too.

I might suggest you bring a lock/chain/security device for your bikes at the racks (both at the marina for the boat to the Magic Kingdom and the entrance end for the bus). We wouldn't want the bikes to wander off by themselves, would we? :goodvibes

Thanks, that what I was thinking! The last time we camped here all of the transportation left from the Settlement stop. I love this board!

I think you'll do just fine with the bikes. :thumbsup2

We take our bikes and usually stay in the 1700 loop. It's never been a problem with us.

We stayed in the 200 loop and the bikes worked out just fine. An added bonus was our grandchildren's bike seat which we have attached to my DH's bike. We didn't have the grandkids with us so we used the seat as a carrier. Held our small ice cooler just great, held our groceries/items from the stores, etc., and safely kept our fried chicken from the TE nice and safe!

Golfcarts are not something you need the are a extra or luxury thing granted they are fun people like to loop around the sites looking at other sites for ideas or if its halloween or christmas time they site see for the decorations As i said fun, faster but aa luxury as long as you don't mind walking or biking you can certianly do either just walk to the front of your loop and catch a bus to either end and then bus to whatever park you want or bike to the front or rear to catch your bus or boat to the park then there is always the drive to the park option and leave the bike home the options are up to you and how active you want to be is the bike exercise or a means of transportation

Thanks so much! I'm sure we're going to enjoy looping. If we arrive early (We're stopping at the Chattahoochee KOA on the way down. I think it's about 5 hours away.) can we take our bikes and tour the campground before check-in? Hubby would like that.

Yes I pretty sure you can do that!

It was our full intention to do this (we drove from Lafayette!). When we arrived early, they directed us to the overflow lot. However, we had pets with us and hadn't made reservations that day for the kennels.

We also stayed in the 300 loop and used our bikes only. We even rode to the outpost to catch the bus a few times.

Have a fun time!

Hi Neighbor!

I grew up in the cane fields just outside Jeanerette :thumbsup2

I hadn't thought about our puppy. Can he go with us in his bike basket or are dogs not allowed outside the pet area? If not I guess we'll just sleep in and get there at check-in time. Thanks for the heads up.

You don't need one until you try one, then you're hooked.

There are areas dogs aren't allowed - pools, playgrounds, Meadows, Settlement/marina/beach... I've also seen a "no dogs past this point" on the main road leading out to the bus stop at the Outpost, but on the flip side I've seen dogs being walked from the kennels into the campground that way.

Of course now that the kennel is closing, no real reason for that any more.

We were in the 500 loop and took bikes..... in fact there are places you can go with a bike that you cant with a golf cart....

I agree with what most people are saying, you definately don't "need" one....especially if you have bikes and are willing to bike your way around. I absolutely love "looping" in the cart, plus we have some youngin's (1  & 4:rotfl:) and a stroller that we take to the parks...so the GC is a nice option for us, and I save my change all year to justify it :cool1:
