I don't think I'm going to like this project -- Upd: looking better today. :)

Late last week, my sup volunteered us (mostly me) for a high-profile but fairly easy project that has a rush due-date. It's another web tool.

Well, all Friday (which he was off due to an eye dr's appointment) I worked on a layout design that I thought he'd like, which I really like, and another coworker really likes. He doesn't like it. He found another layout that is very similar but is a near duplicate of a company-standard page which he'd rather follow.

No problem, right? Sounds like a good idea and I agree with the concept.

Only....Just looking at the page for 30 seconds gives me a splitting headache. How am I supposed to design a tool around a look-and-feel that gives me a headache???

And he's starting to stress about the project which is putting him in a bad mood which is rubbing off on me.

Sigh.

Can this project be over?

Lots and lots and lots of Tylenol? Just try to get it over with as soon as you can -- or do it in small doses at a time, so you don't have to stare at it too long. Hang in there.

For every 15 minutes you have to look at the screen, give yourself 15 minutes to cross stitch, plan a Disney trip, hang out on the DIS boards, or anything else you like.

Now, even though you may do these things anyway, this plan allows you EXTRA time.

hang in there! i also work in a project-based environment and i know that you get some really bad ones sometimes. i'm also working on a rush project right now.

Well, a coworker came up with a suggestion that I was able to implement that *barely* changed the look, but got rid of the glaring just enough that now it doesn't give me a headache.

If my sup doesn't like that, then this tool is getting a customize tool that will allow you to select your background color. Take a whole 20 minutes to code, save a ton of headaches.

Between the slight alterations I did yesterday that brought the project from something that gave me a splitting headache to something with just annoyance, then the changes made during a discussion with the sup this afternoon, we have a plan that should be a *lot* more soothing, still keeps similar colors, and maintains the look and feel wanted.

Now the project doesn't look so bad.
