Can someone help me out here with this whole car rental thing?? :rotfl2: We're flying into Tampa airport 11/24 and flying out 12/3. I know this is Thanksgiving day but, HOLY COW!!! I can't seem to find anything for under $500 for that time frame. At that rate it's eating up the savings of flying into Tampa instead of MCO :headache:

The plan is to drive from the airport to Winter Haven and go to Legoland on Friday. After that drive up to Disney. We usually use Disney transportation while there, so I don't really care about having a car while we're there necessarily. And then we just need to get back to the airport on the 3rd.

Does it make sense to rent for 2 days and return it at Disney?? And then somehow figure out how to get back to Tampa on the 3rd??? HELP!

I would spend some time ASAP, looking for the cheapest rate, then book it now. You can always cancel it, but the rates might go up higher as it gets closer.

That being said, I would join Alamo's Insider club, then price it out. There is a $35 coupon you can use. I checked our dates with a 9am pickup and drop off at the Tampa airport and got a full size for $345. I have this code on my rental for 11/3-11/8 and the cost goes up and down. If you use this code, I would check the price 2x a day. (really!!) I am now paying $75 for 6 days (compact) because I caught it when the price dropped one evening, where it had been higher in the morning.

Also, if you are a Costco member they have a code which is knocking prices down.

Finally, check the thread for the Nov car rentals here. Maybe someone there can help you.

I would learn how to bid on priceline or hotwire in order to get a decent rate.

Yes, make a real, cancellable reservation for the lowest you can find first as a back-up.

Then, read the FAQ's on boards like biddingfortraveldotcom or betterbiddingdotcom to learn how to bid on rental cars.

That's what I plan on doing for April.

Rental Cars are priced out of this world right now. It's kinda disgusting!

Dollar has a city special for TPA for $322.04 total for your dates (just did noon to noon). That's a mid-size. Not bad for a holiday.
