K-Cups?? We're going to be at HOJO for a weeks time and we are not coffee drinkers so I didn't need to ask...but now I just read that you can use these for hot chocolate? How do I do that? What do I need to bring? Special mix??

They have the Keurig B60 coffee maker. While we were there in March we went down the their gift shop and bought them there they were a dollar each. They also had different flavor coffees, creamers and sugars. The sugars and creamers were like a dime or something. Hope that helps. :goodvibes

I still don't get it...I'm buying the cup at the gift shop and I bring my hot chocolate? I don't think I'm getting the concept?!?!?!

The "cup" is small plastic unit that the coffee/tea/hot chocolate is stored in.

Are you familiar with "pod" coffeemakers? Very similar concept. You make one drink at a time by putting the k-cup into the unit, adding the water, closing the lid, and hitting the brew button. Takes about 2 - 3 minutes for the coffee/tea/hot chocolate to come out of the machine into your waiting drinking vessel.

I didn't realize that the store sold them as we just used what was up in the room. $1 a cup is not that bad for a single cup, I guess. You can buy a box of 18 at Target or one of the other major retailers for $9 - $10/box.

So does housekeeping leave you a couple? What if you need more? Do you have to buy them in the gift shop or can you just ask for some from housekeeping?

If you want to buy them before your trip, you can find k-cups at most stores these days. Grocery stores, Target, Kohls...

Your choices are:
*get a box of Hot Chocolate Keurig cups at Target or somewhere similar if you'll drink that much hot chocolate at DLR (18 per box)
*buy individual ones at the HOJO gift shop
*bring hot chocolate mixes and just use the Keurig to heat up the water

I think they leave 2 or 3 in your room everyday. If you need more I'm guessing you'd have to buy them in the gift shop.

They leave 4 kcups of columbian coffee. I have gotten some extras on days we headed back for our afternoon breaks. Ask one of the housekeeping staff they just handed us some :) I bring some of our own too, just cause they are
pricey at their market compared to a box. But we have a keurig at home so
it's not a stretch to go thru a box for us :thumbsup2

Just went to Target, to the coffee isle and I did see the Keurig Coffee but not hot chocolate?

I'll bring the mixes with me and use the Keurig to heat up the water and see how this thing works...I'm such a dork!!

I know Bed Bath & Beyond carries them sometimes and Costco has K-cups but I don't know if they have Hot Chocolate.

Here are some photos in case you wanted to know what they look like:

Not sure which brand people recommend, I've never had it. Also, if you don't leave for a while you could order it from amazon...

That works just as well keurig sells hot chocolate packets from their website. I like the packets better, their kcup hchoc tastes like yuk IMO.:)

The packet will work just fine. In fact, when I watched a demo of the machine at Macy's the lady suggested that (for hot chocolate only) you use the machine to heat the water and dump the powder from the k-cup into your mug and stir. I remember thinking, what's the point of that when I can buy swiss miss that I love, for cheaper than the k-cups? And with that in mind, what's the point of the machine if you have access to a stovetop to heat your water?

I think it's a great idea for a hotel room - lots of uses for semi-instant hot water.

Thanks for clarifying - that would do me just fine but DH likes a morning 'brew' ie cup of English tea - can u request this (or buy - not too bothered about buying at the gift shop if we have too)

We just got back from a stay at the HoJo. I am not a fan of coffee at all but I do like my tea (spent some years living the UK). I find that ordinary black tea can be hard to find in US restaurants so I usually bring my own supply of Tetley tea bags.

What I did with the coffee machine in the room was pop my teabag in where the coffee "pod" goes and proceed as normal. Once the tea was brewed, the damp tea bag was easily disposed of. I believe there are even some Lipton tea bags provided by the hotel.

Keurig makes tea cups. We are tea drinkers (yes, I lived under the civilizing rule of the British Empire and as such my DNA was altered to enjoy "real" tea.) and coffee drinkers.

When we were there in December we purchased K cups from the on site sundries store in English Breakfast and Green Tea configurations. The tea was good, better than what usually passes for tea in the United States, but not as good as well brewed tea at home.

The Keurig Coffee was as good as what I brew at home, so we tended to drink the coffee for the rest of the trip. I was so happy when I got home to my brown betty teapot and loose leaf tea.

We too are tea drinkers and usually bring our own from home, but this time we were pleasantly suprised to find Tetley "English blend" at Vons. Bought a box and it is just the same as the Tetley we drink at home here in Canada.
What I did though, was to put the tea bag in the cup, and after cleaning out the maker by running through a cup of water to get rid of residue coffee, let the machine run the boiled water into the cup with the tea bag. This way u can control the strength of the tea by leaving the bag in the water longer. We used to bring our own kettle so I'm glad we don't have to do that anymore! We also use either our own hot chocolate mix we bring, or the gift shop sells individual packets of Nestle hot chocolate mix. You can make your own mochas this way too, mixing strong hot chocolate with the coffee.

Keurig does make tea pods. I have some English Breakfast ones I got at Kohls. It was $9.99 for a box of 16 or 18.

I do love how Hojo has disposable cups with lids, that way I can make my tea and walk with it to the parks.

Our room at HOJO had a microwave... don't know if that's a standard or just part of the Kids Suite package, but if your room has one you could heat up water in the microwave and use your regular packets.
