Most of you know my 16 year old kitty was put down on Wednesday.

My children left this morning for 8 days with their dad. This is always a lonely time.

I was feeling a bit lonely, a bit sorry for myself and wishing my kitty was here on my lap.

I went out to get the mail and there was a card from my Vet's office. I thought, "Oh, that's nice of them to send out little sympathy cards," even though I started to choke up about it.

Well, I open the card and it's a "New patient/Welcome to our office card!!!!" They're looking forward to serving my pet as his vet!!!

This office has been taking care of my cat for all of his life...his neutering, his shots, his diabetes care, dental work, dental surgery not to mention the fact that they put him to sleep 5 days ago!!!!

You think they would be a bit more careful.

What a stinky day. :(

Thanks for listening!

Have you thought of getting a new kitten? I know it would never take the place of your other baby but it will help! When Isis passed away I got another kitten from the breeder because Isis was full blooded and I had paid for him. I was leery about getting Dootsie. I was leery about going to get my other Isis but I did and both of them are now doing wonderfully....

I will never forget my first Isis but my new Isis and my Dootsie have brought so much joy into my life in the short time they have been here. I bet not 5 minutes goes by that one of them isn't in my lap or romping across the floor and it just brings a smile to my face!!

Ugh! How irresponsible of your vet's office to send you that letter, obviously done in error, but still! :(

Sorry you are having such a rough time of it lately, crb! Hope your days get brighter real soon.

Impossible as it seems, my daughter got a welcome letter from her obstetrician. Her baby died an hour after birth. She called them up sobbing her heart out. They said they were sorry!!!!! I'll never forget it.

I can't believe they goofed on that! How sad. :(

Like Beth said, if you're ready for a new kitty, go out and get one. As long as you're the type that can accept a new purrbox into your heart so soon after losing one *without* resenting the new baby, new babies can help heal *so* much. I know that, belive it or not, one of the things that helped me the most after losing Blaze a couple of months ago was turning my attention to fish. I can't get another cat for a few more months (we want to make sure Skye and Sienna don't show any symptoms) but I needed something to turn my attention to and to help my heart heal. Believe it or not, my bettas and now neons and zebra danios have helped.

The point is, if you're ready for another kitten, he or she could help you heal. But don't push yourself either. If you're not ready, don't go get one just to try to fill a void. Only get one when you're ready.

In the meantime, here are tons of hugs and PD for you. *hugs*

Oh that stinks! How can they not update their records when something like that happens!! I am so sorry this happened to you! It was probably a "computer" glitch....or that's what they will blame it on! My son was stillborn at 7 months. 2 months later, I started receiving all sorts of "baby" samples in the mail. :( I called each and every company and told them to take me off their lists. I couldn't deal with it. Would you believe that Carnation had the nerve to say "Are you sure? If you have another baby, we won't be able to send you anything". You can imagine my reply to them!!

I'm sorry you lost your kitty. And it must be that much harder to have your kids on a trip at the same time. :(

The card was very bad timing on their part, wasn't it? I think I'd write them and let them know so someone else doesn't have to experience the same thing.

I would want to contact them to so they are more careful in the future.

I also agree, that with the kids gone, you need a great big {{{HUG}}}. If your heart can handle it, maybe it would be a good idea to get a new baby kitty...... that only you will have time with over the next few days.

Maybe I'll send the card back and explain. There was a woman with a baby kitten right after me. I hope she didn't get a sympathy card :earseek: :earseek:

I'm not ready to share my heart with a new kitty yet. Blackjack was here under my feet and on my lap and in the crook of my neck for 16 years and had a very unique personality.

Someday, I'll get a new cat. I plan on getting a shelter kitty.

Marlasmom---that is absolutely awful! What a heartache for your daughter. They should be unbelievably ashamed! :( :(

AQ-{{{HUGS}}} The insensitivity of people amazes me.

Thanks everyone.

*hugs* again!

Good for you for knowing you're not ready for another kitty yet. I think too often people rush out for another animal just after one beloved pet died, and they end up making a mistake. Some people can get another pet right away and have it help. Others take more time. It's good you know where you are in that group.

In the meantime, tons of *hugs*!!

Rajah---I just pm'd you.

Thank you so much for the hugs and kind words :)

Hopefully it was just some sort of clerical error on their part. I think it would be a good idea to notify the office personnel when you are feeling less irritated with them so you can let them know about their error and they can correct their records.

Sorry for your loss I know how much you must have loved your precious kitty.

no advice ... just hugs and some pixie dust headed your way!

I'd definately send the card back with a note attached. I hope they didn't do a mix up in the cards.

My puppy's Vet has automatic cards that go out periodically. The day we got him back from being neutured, they sent me a reminder to talk about getting him neutured.
