I don't get this...

I was trying to book a room only reservation for WL for one night, and it says that there is nothing available. However, when I change it to two nights, there suddenly is an availability. Are room only reservations on weekends a two night minimum at some resorts?
Could I book it for both nights and then cancel the night I don't need?

I did this a couple of months ago. I needed only two nights Veterans weekend but it showed nothing available. Three nights were available so I booked three nights and later called and canceled the last night.
