I don't get it.....Disney Store closings

I'm not sure if this is where this question goes, but since there's so many TDS fans on here, I thought this would be a good place. I haven't paid much attention to the store closings, because they haven't really affected our area. However, I went shopping with my sisters on Black Friday, while we were home for Thanksgiving. I was looking forward to TDS sales, and very disappointed to see that their mall, in Asheville, NC, no longer had the store. I really don't understand this. From my home, I can be to DTD in an hour, and the Outlets in Orlando in 1 hr., 15 min., but we still have TDS in our malls. Why would they close the stores in the markets far from WDW, and leave those open in areas where people have an opportunity to buy the merchandise elsewhere? Am I the only one that this doesn't make sense to? :

Only some Disney Stores have closed over the last few months/years due to many different reasons....lost their lease, Disney decided not to keep the store in that area, etc.

The sale of the TDS 2 weeks ago did not cause currently open stores to close...actually the opposite....all remaining TDS stores are supposed to get redone. They will still be called the TDS and still sell the same merchandise, just be owned by another company called Hoop Retail, LLC (The Children's Place).

We were told all existing TDS stores will remain open under the new company. I know they closed many TDS's because Disney wanted/needed to close many of them. We had two stores in our area and one closed 3 years ago but the other is still up and running.

disney sold all the stores to the childrens place and they will continue to sell them their licensed items to hawk there because disney was losing a ton of money on them because they just did a bad job managing them from a corporate standpoint...........was a smart move. I am a disney shareholder so i loved the move. it was dragging the earnings a bit the last 5 yrs..........

I know why they did it. I just don't understand how they chose which stores to shut down. The mall I used as an example, is a very big mall, and that store always seemed to get plenty of business, and there's not another TDS within 100 miles. It just seems to me that the stores that are far from any other Disney related stores, would have been a better option to keep open. I'm not complaining, because as I mentioned, we still have plenty of TDS around, but we also have access to DTD, and a couple different towns/cities with outlets. I guess I was just surprised that their store was closed. It just didn't make sense to me. :

i went to the shareholder meeting and they said that it was based upon sales volumes and 5 yr data on same store sales.

If your sisters are interested, it would be a little bit of a drive, but The Hane's Mall DIsney Store is still open. It is in Winston Salem. It's a huge mall so might be worth a drive for them. There is also a store in Greensboro @ Four Season's Town Center

My guess is the less profitable stores would close. You have to look at it from a Business standpoint. It really doesn't matter WHERE the store is located, what matters is whether or not the store is making a profit. If the store is not making much profit or worse losing money then it makes business sence to close it.
