Some months ago I agreed to be responsible for a benefit dinner at my church....it would cap off a day long fundraising host of efforts...and expected to draw about 100 people. Soo...from last wednesday thur last night (and dealing with the 'aftermath' today) I "gave up my day job" to forfill that promise.
It was decided that a more "up scale" themed event could produce a higher return...so we went for an "international
food fair" theme. I staged it as a served buffet and I thought I'd
share with ya some pic's of what I ended up doing...
This is one of the two 'dining rooms' in the basement of the
church...I first had to thing about decorations....
here's a little closer shot...
Here's the first item on my menu of international cuisine....Israeli
Cucumber Salad...
followed by Tabouleh....
then by Mediterraenn pasta salad...
Welsh pork pies....had I had more time...I would have done more
garnishing....here are a couple tomato roses.....oh...and yes....the
other pie's crusts looked better than these two did !
Sweet & sour pork.....
Chicken Kabuli.....an Indian dish in a cream reduction with mild
spicing and fresh cilantro...
What's Indian without a nice Chutney?....here's some appricot with raisin & currant chutney...LOL! One person asked if I could make up some more for them to buy so they could put it on their toast in the morning!
I served Basmatic rice as bedding for both the sweet & sour and the Chicken Kabuli too.
I got a lot of good feedback on my caribbean coconut encrusted shrimp, the garnishing and the dipping sauces too....
Just like a 'goofus'....I forgot to take a picture of the dessert
table...I made an ice sculpture of the 'leaning tower of
piza'...surrounded by platter of Baklava, cannolis, rum ba bas, and assorted miniature pastries...including cream puffs, eclairs, fruit tarts, cheesecakes and fruit.
We exceeded our goals...and sold every bit (well...nearly!
) of the left overs....I'm pretty happy how it all turned out....having been focused on this for the past 5 days...I'm glad it's over thou.
...besides...I now need to deal with the "wrongful endangerment" lawsuit my lower back and feet have filed against me!
