Groosch...I wonder if this is why?.......

Some months ago I agreed to be responsible for a benefit dinner at my church....it would cap off a day long fundraising host of efforts...and expected to draw about 100 people. Soo...from last wednesday thur last night (and dealing with the 'aftermath' today) I "gave up my day job" to forfill that promise.

It was decided that a more "up scale" themed event could produce a higher return...so we went for an "international
food fair" theme. I staged it as a served buffet and I thought I'd
share with ya some pic's of what I ended up doing...

This is one of the two 'dining rooms' in the basement of the
church...I first had to thing about decorations....

here's a little closer shot...

Here's the first item on my menu of international cuisine....Israeli
Cucumber Salad...

followed by Tabouleh....

then by Mediterraenn pasta salad...
church6.jpg

Welsh pork pies....had I had more time...I would have done more
garnishing....here are a couple tomato roses.....oh...and yes....the
other pie's crusts looked better than these two did ! :teeth:
church7.jpg

Sweet & sour pork.....
church8.jpg

Chicken Kabuli.....an Indian dish in a cream reduction with mild
spicing and fresh cilantro...

What's Indian without a nice Chutney?....here's some appricot with raisin & currant chutney...LOL! One person asked if I could make up some more for them to buy so they could put it on their toast in the morning! :teeth:

I served Basmatic rice as bedding for both the sweet & sour and the Chicken Kabuli too.

I got a lot of good feedback on my caribbean coconut encrusted shrimp, the garnishing and the dipping sauces too....

Just like a 'goofus'....I forgot to take a picture of the dessert
table...I made an ice sculpture of the 'leaning tower of
piza'...surrounded by platter of Baklava, cannolis, rum ba bas, and assorted miniature pastries...including cream puffs, eclairs, fruit tarts, cheesecakes and fruit.

We exceeded our goals...and sold every bit (well...nearly! ;) ) of the left overs....I'm pretty happy how it all turned out....having been focused on this for the past 5 days...I'm glad it's over thou.

...besides...I now need to deal with the "wrongful endangerment" lawsuit my lower back and feet have filed against me! :p

Ok...I must know the secret....how did you get that Palm Tree to stay up?

...would you believe pixie glue? :p......LOL!

well....you start by cutting a potato in half...and placing it cut side down onto the platter...then you may need to "level-off" a small area on the top side of the spud to mate to the big end of a carrot which you'd cut as even as possible...then...with a bit of wooden skewer (just break off the lenght you need) you peg the carrot to the spud. Generally a couple bits of broken toothpicks will peg the green pepper to the top of the carrot...oh...and if you interested....the blue stuff (representing the ocean) is sliced onion boiled in water to which I added a tube of blue food coloring.

Thank you everybody for your very kind words! It was alot of fun and it thankfully was a very sucessful event! :)

Dan!~ LOL!! yes....I'm sure you're right...there must have been a couple hundred hidden Mickeys in that bowl! :teeth:

Wow what a great job... now the down side, they will want you to do every dinner from now on because they know what a fantastic job you do!!! Take a deep breath and rest...you earned it!!

Where are the hotdogs and Mac & Cheese???
