Ok.. I'm jealous.
I'm reading all of these wonderful trip reports.... all the fun, all the humor, all the praise (including mine) from all the fellow Dis'ers.
So I think.. We had fun! I'm humorous! I want some praise!
Then I think of how much I LMBO at Hucifer's TR, and I love Cynderella's writing style and pics of her ADORABLE kids (and her DH's butt (not sure I've seen his face yet)... and I think, I didn't make $3600 like Horsegirl, and I don't have endearing "sidenotes" as DisUnc. And I think some more.. I don't know if I can do this. I don't do trip reports... never have. I have no special writing talents... I don't have $3600 (I spend 17 days in the Mutherland.. I'm BROKE), And I have no side-notes... so should I try this?

Ok.. I'll try. But I didn't take any notes.. and I've been back 26 days (according to my ticker), so I'll do my best to document our time there.
Hopefully I'll finish what I start... so here I go...

I guess I’ll start before the beginning.

There is only Myself.. I’ll call myself BB cause, well that’s my name!
And my DD9… I’ll call her DD. That’s not her name, but it’s easy and it rhymes with mine :)

Our adventure started July 6th 2006, and ended exactly 17 days after.

We don’t usually vacation this late. Our vacation always starts in June. Early June every other year, and late June on the off years. But trying to keep costs down a bit we chose to wait until after value season started for the Deluxe resorts, which this year was July 5th. So July 6th it was…. And I started planning from there.
We were supposed to be staying 10 nights at AKL and 6 nights at WL .. but lack of AP rates for those resorts this year had me cut it down to 4 nights off property, and 6 nights at each AKL and then WL. I don’t like having my plans change after reservations are already made, but the $700+ savings for changing those 4 nights was substantial for us.. so the change was made.
I like non-stop flights, and I like them cheap! The best price was at the Philly Airport flying Airtran (I have since learned of another airline that flies out of a town about 30 minutes from me for cheap.. I will be trying that next year (thanks DISUNC  ).

I have this belief that if you vacation for 17 days, you should experience the vacation for 17 days. That means getting an early flight out, and a late flight back.
I chose a 7:00am flight. I was told by my DDs daddy that Philly is about 2hrs 15 minutes from me, so getting to the airport at an acceptable time had me waking up before I ever got to bed. I didn't want THAT early a flight!
Let me just say that when I made plane reservations I had already made my car reservations (I made them in early April). I knew I would get there early and made the pickup for 11am, knowing being early for pickup would be fine, only a slight chance I'd have to wait for a car. Being late is not a good idea though.
I did consider making a later flight (I think the next one was 10 or 10:30am), but I would have needed to change my car reservations. Even though it’s only by a few hours.. it’s a change. It would have taken my total from the $370 (total after all fees and taxes) I had it booked at.. to over $550 !!. The prices went way up!! I didn’t need sleep that bad! And, I figured DD and I could sleep in the car on the way to the airport. I booked the nice early flight.

It’s the 6th now, morning comes… but you can’t tell cause, HEY, it’s only 2:30 am!
I had planned on getting any 'last minutes' together, then waking DD at about 3 or so. If we left by 3:30 that should be fine. I was saying goodbye on the Disboard (apparently an important “last minutes” that needed to be done)… and noticed that the pouring down rain didn’t seem to be slowing down. It had been raining here in NE PA so badly, there was serious flooding everywhere. The rain hadn’t been so bad the past couple of days, but now here it was again.. raining on my Disney parade. That’s ok though cause I checked weather.com and they said the rain would stop before 4:00am down in Philly so we wouldn’t have long until it stopped. I mean it’s weather.com! It KNOWS weather!

But, I am cautious and decided to leave early. I don’t have to worry about waking DD cause she never went to sleep either! She told me “how do you expect a kid to sleep when we’re going Disney?!!” Ok.. point taken. So I have her go downstairs and wake her daddy up (I’ll just call him daddy). He’s here because he’s going to drive us to the airport and me and DD can both get some sleep on the way!

I hear him dragging his self up the stairs, confused. No particular reason why.. he’s just usually confused. I throw the carry-ons to him and tell him to put them in the truck. The carry-ons soar passed his blank looking stare and thud onto the landing (did I pack anything breakable in there? Thank goodness my camera is over my shoulder!) So he turns and looks down the stairs at the carry-ons like what was that? It’s not like I tossed them at him unexpectedly… I said ‘catch’, he grunted, which I took to mean ‘ok’, so I threw them to him.
I leave him staring bewilderedly at the carry-ons while I run to the kitchen to grab breakfasty things for the truck ride. Some yogurts, a zip-lock of cheerios, bananas and Gatorade.
DD is hugging the pets as if she’ll never see them again, carefully explaining to Ella
Black-Labrador-resized-32.jpg
(our large black lab) that we are only going on vacation and she’ll call to talk to her every night (which she did). Ella was watching her with huge, very dark soulful eyes as if she understood every word. But knowing my poor dog’s lack of intelligence, she was probably wondering if DD was gonna give her a treat! Abby, the cat,
abby.jpg
looked disinterested (do cats have another expression?), but curled around DDs legs like she knew she was leaving for a while (cats are smart.. especially ours. Abby got Ella’s brain rations). Lastly she went to say goodbye to Snuggles (the extremely large guinea pig
spock.gif
), who squeaks ... umm affectionately (I guess  ).

I get back to the stairs happy to see that both DD’s daddy and our carry-ons have vanished. We go out the front door and I am not happy to see Daddy asleep in the driver’s seat (snoring and drooling)… and the hatch in the back still opened. I’m sure he was just trying to catch us some fresh rain water for the ride down in case we ran out of Gatorade, but I’d prefer our luggage NOT get wet!
So much for sleeping on the way down. DDs all settled in her seat, buckled up and excited, talking a mile a minute and I open the driver’s door… and let the rain fall on daddy’s face. No sign of life. So I have to shake him a bit to wake him and get his butt over to the passenger side. On his way over he says “I’m ok, I’ll drive”… as he goes right to the passenger side, gets in, and is asleep before I’m buckled up. I don’t think it was a serious offer <insert sarcasm here>.

So, off we go. It’s barely 3am… it’s POURING! Philly had had a LOT of flooding in the days before so I’m not sure if that would hinder our travels.
The drive there was very uneventful… DD had a yogurt and half a banana then finally fell asleep in less than half an hour… Daddy never woke up until we were almost there (I had helped him a bit there). I played some CDs and watched the road. I didn’t worry too much about the rain, I knew once we got going for a while, it would stop. Weather.com told me so.
They lied
storm.gif

It POURED IN TORRENTS the whole way there. At one point I pulled over under an overpass (or would that be an underpass…hmmm). I started out again and I followed a tractor trailer keeping distance, but staying close enough so I could follow his lights. I prayed he didn’t run off the road cause I’d follow him right over.

Philly is not so hard to get to.. I know that. Pretty much straight.. But I don’t really know the way. I’ve never driven there without someone else in the car knowing where we were going… and in this case the all knowing one is snoring with his head bouncing off the window next to me. I know we’re kind of close… so I wake him. He opens his eyes, finds a more comfy position, closes his eyes, and promptly starts snoring again. I try to remember how much I was once in love with this man and how amazing I used to find him… he now amazes me in a totally different way.
HEY! I call his name and put the “tone” in it… he starts waking again.. he’s heard this tone before. I do it again for pure effect. Now he’s finally awake. He scoots up in his seat a bit.. looks around and announces “it’s raining”. Damn I’m glad I woke him for that. I hadn’t noticed.
It goes like this:
Daddy: Where are we?
Me: I don’t know, that’s why I woke you up.
Daddy: How am I supposed to know?
Me: You know how to get to the airport… I’ve never driven here before.
Daddy: How far are we from Philly?
Me: I don’t know.. I can’t see the signs too well, I couldn’t figure out why until you pointed out that it’s raining.
*Now I’m pulling over to the side of the road. I don’t want to get lost and chance missing our flight. It’s now 5:05. I think we have more to go than just the usual 10-15 minutes because of the weather slowing me down a lot.*
Daddy: What are you doing?
Me: Pulling over until we know where we are.
Daddy: Why?
Me: So we don’t get lost
Daddy (sarcastic): seems like we already are lost
I didn’t say a word… time passes.
Daddy: what time is it?
Me: 5:05
Daddy: well we should be there any minute, it’s only a bit over 2 hours from home.
Me: Not really. Have you noticed the weather?
Daddy: Start driving I’ll keep a look out for 95
Me: Oh well we had just gotten on that before I woke you up
Daddy: Why didn’t you tell me that?
Me: I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to be on that, and, you didn’t ask!
Quiet.
Me: You were supposed to drive because I didn’t know how to get there. And, I was the one up all night, remember?
Daddy: Just stay on this you’ll see signs for the airport.
Me: that’s ALL I wanted to know.

DD slept quietly… and looked very beautiful too!

We got the airport about 15 minutes later so I don’t think it’s really 2.15 minutes from my house since we made it there in only 2.5 hours. I really did go slooow!

Drove right up to the Airtran spot, unloaded, and DD hugged daddy goodbye. She reassured him she would call every night to talk to the pets. Daddy says “and me?”… DD “oh yea, you too daddy”. Now she really does adore her daddy, but when it comes to those pets she has a one track mind. Daddy and I grunt our goodbyes… he wishes us a safe flight (only cause his daughter’s on it I’m sure)… and we enter the airport.

As usual, no problems at check in… got our passes, checked our luggage and off to our gate.
* Note to all Dis’ers, crocs have metal in them. I took my crocs off and put them in the basket check, DD walked through the detector with hers on… BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. She was told to put them in the basket, she did, and she was no longer considered terrorist material. It was now just before 6:00, we had plenty of time. I found myself some cappuccino, DD some hot cocoa, found a comfy spot and nodded in and out of consciousness until departure.

The flight was completely uneventful. I can’t even remember it! I know the plane was a bit smaller than what I’m used to flying with Airtran, it left on time, it got there early… and that’s it. Oh, and I didn’t sleep.

Next Installment.. we're in Orlando!
Coming.. soon-ish.

Here.

Thanks.

Great job so far!!! :thumbsup2 You is just cracking me up-- especially talking about dd's daddy! Can't wait for more! popcorn::

So Orlando here we are! :sunny:

We’re landed and it’s barely 9:15! Our luggage is riding the carousel when we get there (it must’ve gotten a FP), and off we went to find the car rental shuttle. We find the spot and see one of our shuttles passing right by! Darn.. are we in the wrong spot? Is he lost? Should we try to catch… oh.. here’s another pulling in. We weren’t even there 2 minutes.
E-Z car rental has nice shuttles. Comfy.. cool.. the driver was nice and friendly. It’s about a 7 minute ride to the rental place. Checked in with no problems.. I’m on their preferred program so they had all my info. I was offered a convertible Lexus for $7 a day more… hmm, very nice, but I don’t do convertibles with my hair and Florida humidity
frizz3.gif
(ONLY difference is I'm not a blond.. obvious from my avatar)... And, we’re there for 17 days, so after the $119 plus extra tax and fees.. no thanks. We need our souvenir money! We’d had to deal with the ole PT Cruiser last year.. we can deal with it again. This year’s was brand new too, just over 3,000 mi on it, and a more agreeable dark teal color (last years was an attention getting BRIGHT WHITE). Windows are tinted like last years’ so it keeps it cool inside. No getting burned on the seatbelts. And, the air gets so cold you can hang meat in there! I like it!

Off we go. I ask DD if she wants to find somewhere to eat
eat11.gif
.. you must be hungry. She says no.. she wants to go to Sea World. On our first day? Aren’t you tired? Nope she says.. I want to feed the stingrays! (the highlight of last year’s visit). So we go to Sea World.

We pull into Sea World a little after 10am… and I ask for preferred parking (cheap with APs!) and we pull up right near the entrance. Good spot! We both change our shirts to tank tops.. nobody notices (I hope!).. I give my daughter a good spray of the wonder-why-they-haven’t-thought-of-this-before continuous sunscreen spray by Coppertone…and we’re off again.
No problems through the gate, our newly purchased APs work fine. The day isn’t that hot, or maybe just because it’s still pretty early. We don’t dawdle.. DD’s on a mission.
DD: Do you remember where the stingray pool is?
Me: Well not exactly, but let’s follow that sign that says “Stingray Lagoon”… it might be near there. She didn’t seem to appreciate my humor. It was pretty funny I thought.. must be her lack of sleep.
We get to the lagoon and she finds a nice spot with an extremely LARGE fake-looking stingray near it. Of course it’s not fake.. but they look fake to me. I can’t prove it though because I refuse to touch them. But DD says they’re real.

NikStingRay.jpg

This isn't the biggest one she pet... but it's the one I got the pic of

I go and buy her some food.. well not HER some food, but IT some food so she can feed IT. You feed a stingray from the bottom. You lay your hand low with the food (in this case shrimp) between your fingers dangling upward so it can swim over your hand and suck it up. DD says it feels like a wet vacuum cleaner sucking on your hand, making it sound that much more appealing…So she feeds IT and she’s suddenly transformed into my bubbly, laughing, beautiful angel child again. Yes, I can see her halo….
angel-smiley-027.gif

She gets her fill of the stingrays and we hop over to the dolphin nursery right next to it. You can no longer go right up to the wall, there’s a small fence there now, but you still have a really good view of mommy and baby dolphins.

DolphinNursey.jpg

We wander around the park a bit.. not really in the mood for any shows, just enjoying it all and taking it all in. I love the relaxing feel of Sea World.

It’s almost 12:30 DD decides she’s hungry.. and she should be. A cup of yogurt and half a banana HOURS ago! So we go to the Underwater Shark Grill.. and put our name on the waiting list. They say a 45 min to an hour wait.. and I ask DD if she wants to wait. Oh yes! So I find a spot to relax in front, DD buys some food for the sharks and feeds them, and we wait. You can easily walk around the park while you wait… there’s a lot nearby, but DD was too tired to walk around (me too!) .When 25 minutes are up, I go to the desk and politely ask if we’re up yet. The nice SW CM says no. I say, ok thank you.. my daughter’s not feeling well because of the heat, may we sit inside until it’s time? CM looks at DD who truly has rosy cheeks, and she’s sleepy looking as anything. CM says of course, just a second. Then we were shown our seats. Really good seats too, but almost all of them are. We were seated in a one of the largest booths there…. Very comfy! I think we were basically seated at the next available table. I don’t know if they’re instructed to get uncomfortably hot looking people out of the heat asap… or if all the CMs there are very kind, but I know if a guest says the heat is making them uncomfortable or ill, they are seated within minutes, or immediately as in this case. I don’t make a habit of this, but if we weren’t seated soon, DD looked like she was gonna pass out from exhaustion!
Seems she perked right up in that cool air and atmosphere once we were in and seated! She loves this place! She points to all the fish/sharks.. every time they’re passing. She narrates the fish’s adventures living with the sharks. She bounces in her seat every time a sea turtle passes.
The server came and I ordered, and between words and bounces I finally got her to order. The server seemed very amused and encouraged her. Thanks  ... a couple of tables nearby already seemed to be stealing glances our way. Let them look…. DD was having fun!

I had some kind of WONDERFUL salad called “The Great White Salad”. I don’t remember what was in it, but it was really good! I know the ‘great white’ part was a piece of gorgonzola cheese that was baked crisp and shaped like a shark fin. Yum. It was only $5. so I thought it would be a small before-eating salad. The way it was piled, it actually looked small when it came to the table. But it wasn’t small and it was filling! I’d also ordered a brick-oven baked pizza which when it came to the table I had the whole thing wrapped up. I was stuffed. DD ordered orange glazed chicken breast. It was on the kid’s menu.. she loved it too… she even ate the veggies! Maybe to her blurred sleep-starved eyes they looked like chocolate chips. She had some kind of sundae for dessert, but couldn’t finish. I passed on dessert. We’ve only ever had lunch here.. never a dinner. Lunches are very reasonable. The pizza was about $6.95 I think.
Dd was falling asleep on the seat and asked if we could leave so we did. I was pretty tired too.. I was hoping by some miracle our room at the Radisson would be ready.

I drove to the Radisson taking the long way. You see we stayed there last year for a few days too, but we stayed at the end of our vacation. I had no idea how to get there from Sea World or the airport. But I knew exactly how to get there from any park at Disney. So I drove to Disney… veered towards AK… got off the highway, got back on the other side and … oh there it was! The turn off I take. From there it was about 5 minutes to the Radisson. That was easy
thatwaseast.jpg
(I like my button!)
Check in was quick… Our room wasn’t ready. It wouldn’t be ready until 4:00 and it was now about 2:45. The front desk people were really very nice and I was kidding with a couple of them for a bit. One woman was from my area-ish. Less than an hour away from where I live. She gave me a load of coupons (that are supposed to be one per adult). It’s a strip with a coupon for 1 bottle of water from the lobby café, one free drink from the lobby sports bar and one free drink from the poolside bar.
We used all of the water ones.. didn’t have to buy water while we were there. I only used 3 of the bar ones while I was there. They were for ANY drink! I ordered some tropical looking froo froo one that was $8.95… free! I tipped the bartender $2. Cheap drinks! The rest of the coupons I gave to a very nice group of people checking in as we were checking out.

Ok.. so now we’re checked in and we have to wait… but look at those lobby sofas!! Don’t they look so comfortable!! And it’s nice and cool in the lobby, a babbling fountain.. maybe we could just veg out here and…. DD is tugging at my baggallini...
Me: Hey sweetie.. whatcha doing?
DD: Didn’t you put my bathing suit in here?
Me: Umm.. yeah, but you’re so tired I thought we could…
DD: Well hurry! Let me change, I can’t wait to go down the slide.

Sigh… Ok.. I’ll veg out at the pool I guess. DD changes, and just as fast as she can makes her way down the pathway to the pool area. I’m following as best I can… dragging my croc-ed feet along the way. I’m TIRED.. where is she getting all that energy from?

I found a spot in the shade and forced myself to stay upright and awake. DD can swim well but anything can happen. And, there are no lifeguards at this pool. So I watch.

At around 3:45 my cell phone rings. Our room is ready.. get the key cards whenever I’m ready. I’m ready… DD is not.
She tortures me for about another hour and a half… and announces she’s ready to go up.
We get the keys, make sure the bellman has the room number and go upstairs.
I paid the whole $10 extra a night for a pool view (which I didn’t last year) and I’m glad I did. We got to the room in building 1000 on the 6th floor and it was great! The view was very pretty.

Poolview.jpg
Poolview2.jpg

(I'm resizing all the pics or they would take up a whole page... it takes some time though)

I wasn’t going to rent a refrigerator this year since we were only staying 4 nights.. but a refrigerator is now standard in the rooms. And it’s a lot bigger than the ones at the Disney resorts too. All in all it was very nice… and we had a better experience here this year than last year. Not that last year was bad.. but I wasn’t really impressed much. This year it was just nicer. Even the staff seemed much nicer. I wonder if the fact that it’s now the Radisson Resort Celebration instead of Parkway means that it changed owners. That could be why the atmosphere seemed friendlier.

So we’re in our room now.. I don’t do too much unpacking since we’ll only be here a few days. Enough stuff to get us through… and I hang up anything that might get too wrinkled. I see DD staring at the pool through the window and I HOPE she’s not thinking of going back down. I went into the bathroom and start running the shower. I tell her she should get in the shower… and it worked!! She was getting in the shower!! I get to stay in the room. I was so happy! :Pinkbounc
When she got out of the shower, I asked what she would like to eat for dinner. Neither of us were starving but it was after 6 and I didn’t want her eating too late. DD suggested pizza, probably because of the strategically placed placard on the table that said “Pizza Hut Delivered To Your Room”! It sounded good to me.. so I ordered down for Pizza Hut.

A nice quiet night… We hopped on my bed, ate pizza and watched the Disney Channel of course.

Just before bed, as promised DD phoned home
ET.jpg
and asked to talk to
Black-Labrador-resized-32.jpg
first of course. After

, she even remembered to say goodnight to daddy.

Great reporting! And so far as I know, nobody else has yet to include photos within a line of text like you did! Your report is right up there with all the best ones- now keep at it!

Thank you Krismom.. but if you're talking about the smilies, see DisUnc's TR... he's the king of smilie embellishment! (Of course Cynderella is THE QUEEN of smilie ownership).

For not doing trip reports, you are doing pretty good.

Wow Anc96 your TR is great. And you said you weren't a writer. I use pics mostly in mine. Not much of a writer myself. Seaworld is great isn't it? Its my new favorite non disney park now. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, LAX is straight west from me and we freaked out about getting there, too! Like you, next time we'll be departing out of the airport that's 30 minutes from home instead of 70 minutes from home...and I don't care if it's cheaper or not!!

Great TR...glad you decided to write it. Off to read the second installment now. I go to work and run errands for the day and you've already got Part II up! And you say I'm quick!

This is THE. BEST. STUFF. EVER. Just bought a new bottle today since we used up every drop in the brand new bottle we bought before WDW. Never buying lotion again.

 the dolphins and stingrays at San Diego Sea World, even if I've never been to the one in Orlando (hey, in 7 days, we never even made it off of Disney property!) You must have had a lot of fun!! Jealousy!

Pizza delivery on vacation rules! So do nice quite nights.

Lovin' it and looking forward to updates! :cloud9:
