I do not need this expense at Christmas time!!

My phone got washed in the washer and I put it in the rice for a week and still it was dead :( This time when I got a phone I got the water damage on it LOL

Thanks guys! I will definitely try the rice trick. Unfortunately, I have already turned it on and off several times to see if it was working still. So I may have done damage already to it.

That was my problem :( I tried to turn on my phone and the battery started getting really really hot. I put it in the rice with the back off and the battery separate so the rice could get to all the places on it....but it didn't work. I wished I'd not tried to turn it on....hopefully you'll have better luck.

I didn't buy anything close to the IPhone, I had a slider Walkman....but I loved that phone. Now I have an LG VU touch screen and while it gets the job done...I wish I had my slider back, they don't sell green anymore :(.

We used the rice on a metronome that had sat outside in the pouring rain ALL night long. When we picked it up, we literally poured water out of it. We put it in the rice with the back off. It worked like a charm. You might as well try it. What have you got to lose??

Sorry, I just need a place to vent this. My son threw my iphone in the toilet yesterday. It wasn't even in there 10 seconds before I reached in and got it out. Now the phone will not work properly. I called AT&T & Apple and neither can help me short of buying a new phone. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to save the iphone? How can I dry it out myself without damaging the phone? Any help is greatly appreciated. I certainly don't have an extra $200 or $300 at Christmas time.

Well if all else fails... (I hope it doesn't)... But sell it as broken on ebay. You should be able to get at least $100 out of it, some are going in the $200 - $300 range but they just have broken screens... Atleast $100 is better than nothing.

Now this might not apply to yours as it is regarding an iphone rather than an ipod and truth be told, I don't know a thing about iphones. My DD gave DS's brand new ipod nano a dunk in the toilet. I did find out that to repair it through Apple, it would cost $89 -- which I was ecstatic about since it was going to save me $100 rather than buying a new one. I don't know if you can repair an iphone through Apple or if you have to go through AT&T.

Now I'll tell you the rest of the story that has a pixie dust ending :wizard: -- DS had this nano for 10 days before it became wrecked. After talking with Apple on the phone to line up repairs, I was transferred to a SUPER nice gal who decided that it should be replaced free of charge! OMG I about fell out of my chair and I think I had tears in my eyes. :yay:

Good luck to you! Go ahead and try the rice -- it definitely can't hurt anything.

Get the battery out ASAP; dampness and batteries don't mix, it will corrode the diodes. Dry them separately in the rice, and you'll stand a better chance of success.

I am surprised how many people drop their phones in the toilet! :confused3

I don't have any advice but wanted to let you know your not alone, although mine is not a toilet story.
My friend and I were just talking the other day and her DS4 poured sugar on her laptop keyboard and it's fried. She wasn't happy.

When my DS was 9 he decided to see how the autostart remote for my van works and took it apart. I tried to put it back together but couldn't and the remote model is discontinued and they cannot reprogram a new remote, so I am told I'm outta luck. I have a perfectly good auto starter that I can't use, we live in MN, it was -12 yesterday. :lmao:

I really hope the rice trick works for you!!!:thumbsup2

I suggest filling the van with rice and see if that fixes the remote start.

Ok, herre is the dumb question of the day....

are you ready???

do you use instant rice or "real" rice?

I never buy real rice but may grab a small bag for emergencies. LOL

Not much you can do to dry it out. It may work after it dries out but I doubt it. It will cost you $600 to replace. They discount it when you buy the phone and the new plan. I bought the Apple plan because they told me it was $600 to replace it.

I called Apple and they said the replacement fee for a water damaged phone is now only $199. My phone is still under the one year contract so maybe that is why :confused3

I never even thought to sell it to at least help with some of the expense of purchasing a new one. If it comes down to it, I will definitely list it. Someone always needs parts for their phones.

That is really unheard of. I can't believe you actually got someone sympathetic on the phone at Apple to help you out! Congrats on that one.

How do you take the battery out of the iphone? I can't figure out how to get the back off of the silly thing.?

You must have purchased the Apple plan. I was told $200 for a broken screen with the plan. A new phone was $600 without the plan. I am just in my second month of having my IPhone.

You probably won't be able to get it out, they are made so that people can not replace the battery.

I tried putting the phone in a bag of rice last night. It totally worked. When I opened it this morning, the phone powered up, makes calls and everything still works great. The only thing is I can still see the moisture in the screen and the camera has moisture in it. I am going to leave it in the rice over the weekend and see if more of it clears up. YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!

I know I wasn't the first to suggest it, but you're welcome!!!

I would phone your cel phone provider and ask if they will replace the phone with a new contract and a "loyalty credit". Sometimes they will do it just to keep your business if you have other cel phone contracts with them.:cool1:

I'm glad your phone works, but I still might take Apple up on their $199 offer. When you have problems with your phone, the first thing they do is look inside at a little piece that changes color if it has been exposed to water. If it indicates that it has, it voids everything.

As much as $200 hurts, it may be worth it for peace of mind.

I love dealing with Apple, when the sound button fell off my iphone, they apologized and gave me a brand new phone.

I know you probably already have tried turning it on but if not DON'T! The same thing happened a few years back with our son's phone while we were at WDW. We allowed it to dry out for 3-4 days and unbelievably it began to work. Let it sit or you can try some of the other ideas for putting it in rice or someother drying agent. Keep the faith you might still be ok! Good Luck!
