Sorry, I just need a place to vent this. My son threw my iphone in the toilet yesterday. It wasn't even in there 10 seconds before I reached in and got it out. Now the phone will not work properly. I called AT&T & Apple and neither can help me short of buying a new phone. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to save the iphone? How can I dry it out myself without damaging the phone? Any help is greatly appreciated. I certainly don't have an extra $200 or $300 at Christmas time.

I have heard putting it in a container/bag filled with dry rice works. We tried it on my dh's blackberry he left in the rain and it worked. good luck!

Yep, I'd try the rice trick... just put it in a sealed bag with the rice overnight... and that draws all the water out of it. Might help in getting your phone to work again.

I was just going to say rice too...its awesome! I got tossed into a pool and my phone was in my pocket...rice brought it back to life

I did the rice trick on my daughters ipod that went through the washing machine. I left it in there for 3 days, it works fine. Good luck.

my 14 DD dropped hers in the dog's water bowl and the rice thing did the trick. The next day the phone worked fine.

My niece dropped her itouch in the toilet and put it in a bag of rice for 5 days. It works perfectly now! They do say to make sure to leave it in there close to a week to make sure all the water is out bc if you try to turn it on and it sstill has water in it you will fry the insides! Good Luck!

Wish I had known about this trick last week when my DD dropped her ipod in the toilet! But we just left it alone for almost a week and it now works just fine! Good luck to the OP!

Thanks guys! I will definitely try the rice trick. Unfortunately, I have already turned it on and off several times to see if it was working still. So I may have done damage already to it.

Our trick is drying the phone in the oven. Take it apart, put all the pieces on the oven rack on it's lowest setting (170 degrees I believe). I left it in for a couple of hours. My phone works great!

My cell phone fell out of my pocket and into the toilet a while ago, and I didn't know about the rice trick. I just left it alone for a day or two and all was fine. Good Luck! The rice should do the trick.:thumbsup2

If you pay insurance as part of your monthly bill they should be able to help repair/replace it. Check your bill and see if it is part of your contract.

if you can't get the phone to work try buying one on ebay or amazon. That worked for a friend whose ds destroyed a phone. Verizon wanted full price, the tech in the store had her buy one online and there was only a minimal cost to activate it. The tech said many people who don't want a new phone, but are due for their free replacements, will continue using the old phone and sell the new phone online.

iphone doesn't allow you to get insurance on it. another lovely thing about apple - not that it stopped me from buying one! in fact, when I switched phones, I had insurance on the previous phone. a couple of weeks later, I got a nasty gram from the insurance company saying they don't insure iphones, which I already knew and the store already had taken it off. they made me sound like a criminal like I was trying to defraud them! and no reason not to allow insurance other than they want more money from us!

Wow, that really stinks :( Hope the rice thing works for you. If you need a phone in the mean time you can buy a cheap go phone, don't activate it, just put your sim card in the go phone and you'll be good to go.

I know when I bought my iPhone I was told that a homeowners or renters insurance policy could cover loss/theft of an iPhone.

To the OP, I hope the rice thing works for you.

Better than spending $6 to get all new outside drain pipes and to replace all of the concrete removed to get to the old pipes.

Rice also works well to clean out conical burr grinders when you grind spices instead of coffee.

Not much you can do to dry it out. It may work after it dries out but I doubt it. It will cost you $600 to replace. They discount it when you buy the phone and the new plan. I bought the Apple plan because they told me it was $600 to replace it.

Apple's agreement with AT&T does not allow them to do the insurance. You had to buy the Apple plan. It was the only option.
